Quick facts
The backup furnace that keeps pace with a high-capacity central heat pump
The SUP23-A240V20’s role in a heat pump system
In a home heated by a central heat pump, the heat pump does most of the work and an electric furnace takes over in deep cold. The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP23-A240V20 is made for that role in a large home: Dettson accepts a heat pump or air conditioner coil of up to 5 tons with it, on the supply or return side, and its elements deliver 23 kW at 240 V (17.3 kW at 208 V).
One rule to remember: for this model, non-simultaneous operation is mandatory. The heat pump and the elements never heat at the same time; the thermostat manages the alternation, or a manufacturer accessory is added. We choose this setup with you at the quote stage.
A 1 HP ECM motor to set the air summer and winter
The blower is driven by a 1 HP ECM motor with a 12 x 9 wheel. Its airflow is set separately for heating and cooling, so the air delivery can be matched to each season. Dettson warrants this ECM motor for 5 years, and the furnace parts for 5 years in residential use (1 year in commercial use); labour is not covered by the manufacturer. The published temperature rise is 58°F at 240 V.
An installation that adapts to the house
A multi-storey house with a basement, a recent two-storey home or a larger older house that already has ductwork: the multi-position furnace installs upflow, downflow (on the DFB-SUP base when the floor is combustible) or horizontal, and can be suspended. It is approved for zero clearance, mobile homes and copper or aluminum wire. The elements come on in sequence, quietly, and can be replaced one by one; the continuous-fan switch, the low/high power switch, the heat-demand light and the breakers are on the front.
AirGreen’s work
A family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We start with a free on-site estimate: heating and cooling calculation, review of the ducts, check of the panel (total current of 101.7 A at 240 V, 125 A maximum breaker). You then receive a written quote. At installation, we set the furnace in place, connect it to the ducts and the dedicated circuit, set the ECM motor airflows, check the temperature rise and show you the controls.
An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Electric backup for a high-capacity central heat pump
Paired with a central heat pump, the SUP23-A240V20 moves air with a 1 HP ECM motor with adjustable airflow and provides 23 kW of electric elements when the heat pump is no longer enough. Dettson accepts a coil of up to 5 tons.
- Multi-storey homes with a central heat pump or air conditioner up to 5 tons
- Replacing an electric furnace while keeping the ductwork
- Projects where airflow must be set differently in winter and summer
- Basement, horizontal or suspended installation

What to know before installing
- An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- The elements and the heat pump must not heat at the same time: Dettson requires non-simultaneous operation, handled by the thermostat or by an accessory.
- Total current of 101.7 A at 240 V (89.6 A at 208 V), ampacity of 122.7 A (108.3 A at 208 V), 125 A maximum breaker: a dedicated circuit is required.
- The coil goes on the supply or return side, up to 5 tons.
- Published temperature rise: 58°F at 240 V.

Frequently asked questions
Which heat pump can be paired with this furnace?
Dettson accepts a heat pump or air conditioner coil of up to 5 tons, on the supply or return side. The capacity chosen depends on the home’s calculation, which we do during the estimate.
Can the elements help the heat pump at the same time?
No. For this model, Dettson makes non-simultaneous operation mandatory: the heat pump heats, then the elements take over. The thermostat must manage this alternation, otherwise a manufacturer accessory is added.
Why a 1 HP ECM motor?
The ECM motor lets airflow be set separately for heating and cooling, and Dettson publishes a maximum of 5 tons of cooling for this model. Its current is 5.2 A at 240 V.
What breaker should be planned?
Dettson lists a 125 A maximum breaker, at 240 V as at 208 V, and an ampacity of 122.7 A at 240 V. We check your panel before confirming the installation.
What warranty does Dettson offer?
Parts, for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use, and the ECM motor for 5 years. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
