Quick facts
30 kW of electric heat for a large home, with an ECM motor and adjustable airflow
Choosing among the 30 kW versions
At the 30 kW size, Dettson offers the Suprême Avantage with a PSC motor, the same Suprême Avantage with an ECM motor, and the Suprême Modulante. The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP30-A240V20 sits in the middle: its elements work in stages, as on the PSC version, but its 1 HP ECM motor allows the airflow to be adjusted separately for heating and for cooling. For anyone who wants air movement better matched to the ductwork without moving to modulating control, it is a sensible compromise. We compare all three with you during the estimate.
What the SUP30-A240V20 brings
The furnace delivers 30 kW at 240 V, or 22.5 kW (76,884 BTU/h) in a building supplied at 208 V. The first stage is published at 15 kW at 240 V; the following elements switch on in sequence, quietly according to Dettson, and each one can be replaced individually. The published temperature rise is 65 °F at 240 V.
On the front panel are the breakers, a continuous fan switch, a low/high power switch and a heat-demand indicator light. On warranty, Dettson states 5 years on parts for residential use (1 year for commercial use) and 5 years on the ECM motor; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
What to plan for before installation
At this size, the electrical load is significant: 124.3 A for the elements at 240 V, 129.5 A in total. The supply goes through two terminal blocks, with a breaker of no more than 60 A for the first and 100 A for the second, at 240 V. In a large home in Laval or on the North Shore, we therefore check the electrical service and the room in the panel before making any recommendation. Copper and aluminum wire are both approved.
The furnace is 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep and weighs 105 lb. It is multi-position, approved for zero clearance, and takes an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 5 tons, on the supply or return side. With a heat pump, Dettson requires that the elements and the heat pump do not run at the same time: the thermostat has to handle this non-simultaneous operation.
What AirGreen does
A family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We handle the free in-home estimate, setting the furnace in the chosen position, connecting the plenum to the 20 x 20 in supply opening, wiring the two circuits using the breaker sizes Dettson publishes, and commissioning, including setting the ECM motor’s airflow. We serve Montreal, Longueuil, the South Shore and the surrounding area.

A 30 kW furnace for large forced-air homes
The SUP30-A240V20 heats air with electric elements that switch on in sequence, up to 30 kW at 240 V. Its 1 HP ECM motor moves the air with airflow that can be adjusted for heating as well as for cooling.
- Large homes whose heating-needs assessment confirms a 30 kW size
- Homeowners who want an ECM motor with adjustable airflow rather than a PSC motor
- Homes adding a central air conditioner or heat pump of up to 5 tons
- Replacing an old furnace, in upflow, downflow, horizontal or suspended position
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Two supply circuits: terminal block 1, breaker of no more than 60 A at both 240 V and 208 V; terminal block 2, breaker of no more than 100 A at 240 V (90 A at 208 V).
- Ampacity calculated per CSA C22.2-236: 57.3 A and 98.4 A at 240 V; 51.7 A and 85.2 A at 208 V. Total current of 129.5 A at 240 V.
- 240/208 V single-phase, 60 Hz, 2-wire power supply; a 3-wire connection for 120–208/240 V is possible with accessories.
- With a heat pump, the elements and the heat pump must not run at the same time: the thermostat has to handle this non-simultaneous operation, as Dettson requires.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the furnace sits on the DFB-SUP base.
- The furnace alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between the 30 kW versions?
Dettson offers this size with a PSC motor, with an ECM motor (this model) and as a Suprême Modulante. The SUP30-A240V20 keeps staged elements and adds an ECM motor with adjustable airflow; the Modulante instead modulates its output. We compare the options with you during the estimate.
Does it need two electrical circuits?
Yes. Block 1 needs a breaker of no more than 60 A, at both 240 V and 208 V, and block 2, no more than 100 A at 240 V (90 A at 208 V). We check the electrical service and the panel before confirming this size.
What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?
Dettson warrants the ECM motor for 5 years and parts for 5 years in residential use (1 year in commercial use). Labour is not included in the manufacturer’s warranty.
Can a heat pump be paired with it?
Yes, with a coil on the supply or return side, up to 5 tons. The elements then act as backup, and Dettson requires non-simultaneous operation: the thermostat has to keep the elements and the heat pump from running at the same time.
Does this furnace qualify for a grant?
No. A furnace with elements, even at 30 kW, is not a heat pump and does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant.
