Quick facts
A 25 kW furnace with an ECM motor, ready for central air conditioning
What the SUP25-A240V20 is and who it suits
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP25-A240V20 is an electric furnace with elements: it heats the air in the house and distributes it through the ductwork. It delivers 25 kW at 240 V, or 18.8 kW when the building is supplied at 208 V. Its blower is driven by a 1 HP ECM motor whose airflow is adjusted separately for heating and for cooling.
It is mainly for homeowners who are replacing an old furnace and want to keep all-electric heating, with the option of adding a central air conditioner or a heat pump. Dettson allows a coil of up to 5 tons on this model, installed on the supply or return-air side. The 25 kW size is chosen after assessing the home’s heating needs: insulation, windows, finished or unfinished basement, number of storeys.
How it fits a Québec home
In many homes in Montreal, Laval or Longueuil, the furnace sits in the basement, in a small mechanical room or under a staircase. The SUP25-A240V20 is multi-position: upflow as configured at the factory, downflow, horizontal to the left or right, and even suspended. It is 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep, weighs 105 lb and is approved for zero clearance, which helps in tight spaces.
On the electrical side, this model connects to a single breaker of no more than 150 A at 240 V (125 A at 208 V), for an ampacity of 131.1 A. Both copper and aluminum wire are approved. On the front panel, a continuous fan switch, a low/high power switch and a heat-demand indicator light make day-to-day use simpler; the breakers are mounted there too. The elements switch on in sequence, quietly according to Dettson, and each one can be replaced individually.
If a heat pump is added to the system, the elements become the backup heat. Dettson then requires that the elements and the heat pump do not run at the same time: the thermostat you choose has to handle this non-simultaneous operation. We take this into account from the quote stage.
What installation by AirGreen includes
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For a furnace like this one, we:
- assess the house during a free in-home estimate and check the electrical service and panel;
- choose the furnace position and adapt the plenum to the 20 x 20 in supply opening;
- make the electrical connection using the breaker sizes Dettson publishes;
- connect the thermostat, set the ECM motor’s airflow and check the temperature rise, published at 58 °F at 240 V;
- show you the front-panel controls and how to look after the 20 x 20 in filter.
We work throughout Greater Montreal, from the North Shore to the South Shore, and you receive a detailed written quote before work begins.

Central electric heating for a home with ductwork
The SUP25-A240V20 heats air with electric elements and pushes it through the ductwork with a 1 HP ECM motor. Dettson also designs it to take an air conditioner or heat pump coil, on the supply or return side.
- Replacing an old furnace in a home that already has ductwork
- Adding a central air conditioner or heat pump later, up to 5 tons
- Basement, mechanical room or tight space: upflow, downflow, horizontal or suspended installation
- Mobile homes: the furnace is approved for this type of installation

What to know before installing
- 240/208 V single-phase, 60 Hz, 2-wire power supply (3-wire connection possible for 120–208/240 V with accessories).
- A single breaker of no more than 150 A at 240 V (125 A at 208 V); ampacity of 131.1 A at 240 V and 115.6 A at 208 V, calculated per CSA C22.2-236.
- At 208 V, output drops to 18.8 kW: we check the building’s voltage before confirming the size.
- With a heat pump, the elements and the heat pump must not run at the same time: the thermostat has to handle this non-simultaneous operation, as Dettson requires.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the furnace sits on the DFB-SUP base.
- The furnace alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Frequently asked questions
What size of air conditioner or heat pump can be paired with it?
Dettson allows a coil of up to 5 tons on this model, installed on the supply or return side. We determine the right capacity for the house during the estimate.
Do I need to replace my electrical panel?
Not necessarily. The SUP25-A240V20 needs a single breaker of no more than 150 A at 240 V, for an ampacity of 131.1 A. We check the electrical service and the panel during the free in-home estimate.
What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?
Dettson states 5 years on parts for residential use (1 year for commercial use) and 5 years on the ECM motor. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
Does this furnace qualify for a grant?
No. An electric furnace on its own is not a heat pump and does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant.
Can it take the place of an old furnace in the basement?
Yes. It is multi-position and approved for zero clearance. We adapt the plenum to its 20 x 20 in supply opening and connect the existing ductwork.
