Quick facts
27 kW of electric heat, with an ECM motor and adjustable airflow
What the SUP27-A240V20 is
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP27-A240V20 is the ECM-motor version of the 27 kW Suprême Avantage. Its electric elements switch on in sequence, quietly according to Dettson, starting from a first stage of 15 kW at 240 V. At full output it delivers 27 kW at 240 V, or 20.3 kW (69,195 BTU/h) in a building supplied at 208 V. Each element can be replaced individually.
The 1 HP ECM motor makes the difference day to day: its airflow can be adjusted for heating and for cooling. Dettson warrants it for 5 years, in addition to 5 years on parts for residential use (1 year for commercial use); labour is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
In your basement, in practice
In a cottage-style home in Longueuil or Laval with a finished basement, the furnace often ends up in a small mechanical room. The SUP27-A240V20 suits that setting: it is 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep, weighs 105 lb, is approved for zero clearance and installs in upflow, downflow, horizontal or suspended position. Its 20 x 20 in supply opening takes the plenum, and it uses a filter of the same size.
On the electrical side, this size needs two circuits: a breaker of no more than 60 A for terminal block 1 and one of 90 A for block 2, at 240 V. The published total current is 118.8 A at 240 V. The controls are grouped on the front panel: breakers, continuous fan switch, low/high power switch and heat-demand indicator light.
With an air conditioner or heat pump
Dettson allows a coil of up to 5 tons on this furnace, on the supply or return side. You can therefore install the furnace this year and add air conditioning later in the same ductwork. With a heat pump, the elements become the backup heat, and Dettson requires that they never run at the same time as the heat pump: the thermostat has to handle this non-simultaneous operation. We plan for it from the system design stage.
Installation, from estimate to commissioning
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We start with a free in-home estimate, where we assess the heating needs and whether the panel can take the two circuits. On installation day, we set the furnace in place, connect the plenum and ductwork, make the electrical connections using the breaker sizes Dettson publishes, then set the ECM motor’s airflow. Commissioning ends with a check of the temperature rise, published at 59 °F at 240 V.
We serve Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore, with a written quote provided before any work.

A 27 kW electric furnace with ECM air movement
The SUP27-A240V20 heats air with elements that switch on in sequence, starting from a first stage of 15 kW at 240 V. Its 1 HP ECM motor moves the air with airflow that can be adjusted for heating as well as for cooling.
- Homes with ductwork whose assessment confirms a 27 kW need
- Two-step project: the furnace now, an air conditioner or heat pump of up to 5 tons later
- Mechanical room or finished basement where space is tight: zero clearance, four installation positions
- Mobile homes, for which the furnace is approved
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Two supply circuits: terminal block 1, breaker of no more than 60 A at 240 V (50 A at 208 V); terminal block 2, breaker of no more than 90 A at 240 V (80 A at 208 V).
- Ampacity calculated per CSA C22.2-236: 53.1 A and 90.0 A at 240 V; 48.0 A and 78.0 A at 208 V. Total current of 118.8 A at 240 V.
- 240/208 V single-phase, 60 Hz, 2-wire power supply; a 3-wire connection for 120–208/240 V is possible with accessories.
- With a heat pump, the elements and the heat pump must not run at the same time: Dettson requires a thermostat that handles this non-simultaneous operation.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the furnace sits on the DFB-SUP base.
- The furnace alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Frequently asked questions
Does it need one or two electrical circuits?
Two. Dettson splits the supply of this size over two terminal blocks: a breaker of no more than 60 A for the first and 90 A for the second, at 240 V. We check the panel’s capacity during the free in-home estimate.
What are the front-panel controls for?
They group the continuous fan switch, the low/high power switch, the heat-demand indicator light and the breakers. We show you how to use them at commissioning.
What warranty does Dettson offer?
Dettson states 5 years on the ECM motor and 5 years on parts for residential use (1 year for commercial use). Labour is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
Can a heat pump be paired with it?
Yes, with a coil on the supply or return side, up to 5 tons. The elements become the backup heat, and Dettson requires that they do not run at the same time as the heat pump: the thermostat has to handle this non-simultaneous operation.
Does this furnace qualify for a grant?
No. Sold on its own, the SUP27-A240V20 does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant, because it is not a heat pump.
