Amana PTAC units in Montreal: the right chassis for the hole in your wall
Amana builds its PTACs for the 42 × 16 in wall sleeve, the industry-standard size. The J series on R-32 runs from 7,000 to 17,000 BTU/h as an air conditioner with electric heat, and up to 15,000 BTU/h as a heat pump. Tell us what’s in your wall: we find the right chassis and install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and the North Shore.

An Amana PTAC, a local team.
Amana puts its name on the PTAC, from the J series to the wall sleeve. AirGreen comes to look at your wall, your receptacle and your voltage, picks the right model with you and installs it. Each does what it does best.
What Amana brings
- The standard 42 × 16 in sleeveAmana builds its PTACs for the industry-standard size. In an Amana sleeve, we swap the chassis.
- Four families, the whole J series on R-32PTC, PTH, HEC and HEH, from 7,000 to 17,000 BTU/h depending on the family.
- Every capacity at 230 V and 208 VBoth figures are published, so the size is right in a 208 V building.
- 5-year limited warrantyFull coverage in year one, parts and labour, per Amana’s September 2025 catalogue.

Four answers, and you have the Amana model number to ask for
An Amana PTAC model number reads like a sentence: family, size, voltage, refrigerant and heater. Answer with what you see on your current unit. “I don’t know” leaves the box open: we fill it in on site.
1. How does your unit heat?
A heat pump heats with its compressor and keeps an electric heater as backup.
2. Efficiency
HEC and HEH are the high-efficiency versions of the PTC and PTH.
3. Nominal size
On the nameplate, in BTU/h of cooling.
4. Voltage and plug
At 230/208 V, the cord plug depends on the heater: 6-15, 6-20 or 6-30. 265 V units connect to a sub-base or are hard-wired.
PTH · standard heat pump · 9,000 BTU/h
Bring this number to your quotation: we confirm the heater and the sleeve on site.
At 208 V, the same PTAC delivers a little less: see how much
Amana publishes every capacity twice: at 230 V and at 208 V, the voltage in many buildings. Pick a family and switch the voltage.
| Model | Cooling | Heating | EER | COP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PTH073J | 7,100 | 6,300 | 12.4 | 3.6 |
| PTH093J | 9,000 | 8,200 | 12.4 | 3.6 |
| PTH123J | 12,000 | 11,000 | 11.5 | 3.3 |
| PTH153J | 14,600 | 14,300 | 10.4 | 3.1 |
PTH · standard heat pump
The compressor heats; the electric heater takes over when needed. From 7,000 to 15,000 BTU/h.
Your current sleeve: what Amana documents
The sleeve is the metal box sealed into the wall. The chassis slides into it. Keeping a good sleeve means not reopening the exterior cladding.
Same size: we swap the chassis
The Amana sleeve measures 42 × 16 1/16 in and is 14 1/8 in deep. Deeper sleeves exist for thick walls.
A room-side extension
Amana sells a 1.5 in extension for the 12 1/2 in Climate Master sleeve and a 2.5 in extension for the 11 1/2 in Zone Air sleeve.
We measure before we promise
Amana does not publish a compatibility chart for other brands. We measure the sleeve, the outdoor grille and the drain on site.
The heater sets the plug, the breaker and the heat
Every Amana PTAC is ordered with a heater from 1.5 to 5.0 kW. Pick one: you see the cord plug, the maximum breaker and the heat it gives at 230 V and 208 V.
Heater
Heater output
230 V · 12,000 BTU/h
208 V · 9,900 BTU/h
At 208 V, this heater gives 18% less heat than at 230 V. In a 208 V building, we factor that into the size.
The sizes offered with each heater are confirmed in the quotation.
PTH or PTC: same box, a different way to heat
A PTC heats only with its electric heater. A PTH heats first with its compressor and keeps the heater as backup when the compressor is not enough. Pick a size: the COP tells you how much heat the heat pump gives for each unit of electricity.
Heat pump with backup heater
COP at 230 V per Amana’s catalogue, under the manufacturer’s test conditions. For the J series, Amana does not publish the outdoor temperature at which the heater takes over.
Air conditioner with electric heat
When heating, one unit of electricity gives one unit of heat. It’s simple and it does not depend on the outdoor temperature. The PTC goes up to 17,000 BTU/h : the only 17,000 size in the J series.
The right choice depends on the room, the voltage and how the space is used. We make it with you on site.
Several PTACs to replace? One quotation
Property managers, condo boards and owners: send us what you have on hand. The more we know before we come, the more accurate the quotation.
Five-year limited warranty, with full coverage in year one
According to Amana’s September 2025 catalogue, the PTAC limited warranty lasts 5 years. What it covers changes after the first year.
Covered components, exclusions and conditions are those of Amana’s warranty document in force.
LogisVert and ENERGY STAR: the straight answer for a PTAC
We’d rather tell you before the quotation.
Not eligible
Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert guide (version 1.10, September 15, 2026) covers ducted and ductless split air-source heat pumps with an outdoor unit. A PTAC is a single packaged unit that goes through the wall.
No PTAC category
ENERGY STAR does not certify PTACs. Its room air conditioner criteria exclude them, and the packaged terminal heat pump criteria are on hold.
The right model, at the right voltage
A PTH or HEH heats with its compressor before the heater. We compare with you based on how the room is used.
