03 · How it works

It does not make heat: it moves it.

In a 12,000 wall unit, 34 oz of R-32 shuttles between the head and the outdoor unit through two lines, 1/4 and 3/8 in. Outside, the refrigerant picks up heat from the air, even cold air. Inside, it gives that heat to the room.

04 · WindFree

Ten wall units, one gentle airflow: under 0.15 m/s.

In cooling, all five Standard and all five Max Heat units close the vane and push air through thousands of micro-holes, under 0.15 m/s per Samsung. Below that speed, the ASHRAE 55 standard calls it still air.

05 · Freeze Wash

Freeze Wash: all ten units clean their coil at one button.

Per Samsung, Freeze Wash quickly frosts the wall unit’s coil, melts the ice, then dries the coil: the dust leaves with the water. Watch the three steps.

10 · Efficiency

For each kWh you pay, how much heat?

A baseboard gives 1 kWh of heat for 1 kWh of electricity. A heat pump gives more, because it moves heat instead of making it. Try the Samsung wall units.

Pick a wall unit (HSPF2 rating)

The HSPF2 rating says how many BTU of heat the unit delivers over a heating season for each watt-hour it uses. Since 1 watt-hour equals 3.412 BTU, dividing by 3.412 gives a seasonal average.

This is not a promise for Montreal: HSPF2 is calculated for a US Department of Energy reference climate region (region IV), not for Montreal. Natural Resources Canada says that, averaged over winter, an air-source heat pump heats up to 2 times more efficiently than a baseboard, and up to 2.5 times for a cold-climate model.

11 · Where it goes

Under a 2.20 m ceiling, the head won’t fit.

Samsung’s manual wants the head at least 1.80 m off the floor and at least 100 mm below the ceiling. Add its 298 mm of height and you need 2.20 m of wall. Slide to your ceiling height.

12 · Refrigerant lines

The first 7.5 m of line set come pre-charged.

Samsung charges the outdoor unit for 7.5 m of line set. Past that, we add 0.16 oz of R-32 per foot, up to 20 m on the 9,000 and 12,000 and 30 m on the 15,000, 18,000 and 24,000.

No plug: the outdoor unit powers the head.

The circuit runs from your panel to the outdoor unit. From there, a 14 AWG three-conductor cable feeds the head. Pick your wall unit to see the breaker Samsung specifies.

This bonus cannot be combined with any other offer. Max Heat is a cold-climate wall unit; Standard is not.

Samsung’s manual wants the head at least 1.80 m off the floor and at least 100 mm below the ceiling. With its 298 mm of height, you need a ceiling of about 2.20 m or more (AirGreen calculation).
