WindFree Standard: summer without drafts, winter down to -20.6 °C.
The same WindFree mode as the Max Heat, the same built-in Wi-Fi, the same five sizes. ENERGY STAR certified, it heats down to -20.6 °C outside. It belongs in homes where baseboards, a furnace or a central heat pump keep things warm below -20.6 °C. LogisVert: $545 to $1,020.
- ENERGY STAR
- Narrowest head of the ten (9,000 and 12,000)

It heats down to -20.6 °C (-5 °F). Below that, another heat source takes over.

Below -20.6 °C, will your wall unit be on its own?
If yes, go Max Heat. If baseboards, a furnace or a central system take over, Standard is enough.
Other systems, for example: baseboard heaters, a furnace, a central heat pump. We look at the house with you during the visit.
WindFree Standard is the right fit.
It cools without drafts and heats down to -20.6 °C; in deep cold, your other system takes over. It is ENERGY STAR certified: LogisVert from $545 to $1,020.
Look at the WindFree Max Heat instead.
Same WindFree mode, same Wi-Fi, but it heats down to -30 °C and keeps 100% of its capacity down to -20 °C, per Samsung. It is cold-climate certified: LogisVert from $1,272 to $2,640.
The LogisVert gap between the two series, size by size, is on the Max Heat page: it is the Max Heat’s advantage, not the Standard’s.

The National Building Code sets Montreal’s 2.5% January design temperature at -23 °C: on average, 19 January hours are colder. For those hours at least, the Standard does not heat and your other heating takes over.

The heat pump heats
When temperatures rise, Samsung restricts the backup source and lets the heat pump do the heating.
Backup takes priority
In deep cold, you can make your backup source the priority. Below -20.6 °C, the Standard stops heating: the backup does all the work.
The backup starts on its own
If the heat pump shows certain error codes, the backup can start on its own.
Samsung also lets the installer set the head’s fan during backup heat, defrost and emergency heat. Settings are made at installation; the hookup to your baseboards is checked at the visit.

The Standard 18,000 has a better SEER2 than the Max Heat 18,000.
The Standard heats down to -25 °C.
The Standard 15,000 and 18,000 have the same indoor head size.

What people ask about the Standard.

Not always. Per ENERGY STAR, at -8 °C the Standard 9,000 gives 10,000 BTU/h against 9,900, and the 12,000 gives 10,900 against 10,600. At -15 °C, the Max Heat pulls ahead.
No. All five sizes are ENERGY STAR certified, but none is listed as “cold climate”. Even the 15,000, which keeps exactly 70% of its heat at -15 °C per ENERGY STAR, is not. That is why Hydro-Québec’s list pays it $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C, not $120.
Per NEEP, read by AHRI number on Oct. 14, 2026, its maximum capacity at -20.6 °C (-5 °F) runs from 9,000 BTU/h (9,000) to 11,500 BTU/h (18,000), with a COP of 1.81 to 1.98. The 24,000 is not on the NEEP list.
