vänEE · AI Series · updated October 14, 2026

vänEE air exchangers: the model plate already tells you almost everything
One letter separates an HRV from an ERV, another tells you whether the ports are on top or on the side. HRV core covered 10 years, ERV core 5 years, parts 5 years, per the manufacturer’s guide. AirGreen installs vänEE AI Series units across Greater Montréal.
Plate decoder
H = HRV, E = ERV. The installation guide confirms it another way: only the H models have a drain.

- Net airflow at 0.4 in
- 150 cfm
- SRE at 0 °C
- 77% @ 64
- SRE at −25 °C
- 67% @ 66
- Height
- 19.13 in
01 · How it works
Two airflows that cross without touching
Stale air goes out, fresh air comes in, and the core hands the heat from one to the other. The whole difference between an HRV and an ERV is what else the core lets through.
- Stale air from the house → out to the outdoors
- Fresh outdoor air → into the house
- The core passes heat; drain under the unit (H models)
HRV: the core passes heat from the outgoing air to the incoming air. Excess moisture leaves the house and the condensate goes to the drain.
02 · HRV or ERV
H or E: three questions about your house
It is the letter that matters most on the plate. The tool points the way; the final choice is made on site, once the house has been seen.
Is there a floor drain or a standpipe near the unit?
In winter, does the air in the house get too dry?
In winter, do you see condensation on the windows?
- The verdict shows here, with reasons taken from the vänEE documents.
A pointer, not a diagnosis: the final choice is made on site, once the house has been seen.

vänEE designs the unit and its core. AirGreen looks at your basement and picks the right letter with you. Each does what it does best.

04 · Compare
Fifteen models, one chart, no rounded figures
Each efficiency comes with its test airflow, because 82% at 36 cfm does not compare with 68% at 64 cfm. For deep cold, look at the SRE at −25 °C.

What actually pays for an air exchanger in 2026
Short answer: not much any more. Each line was checked on the program’s own site on October 13, 2026.
No more help for an HRV or ERV since October 1, 2026. Before: $500 per HRV listed in section III of the HVI directory, if the EnerGuide rating improved.
Post-work evaluation deadline: March 31, 2027, if the pre-work evaluation is already done.
No air exchanger in the program: guide v1.10 of September 15, 2026 covers heat pumps, insulation, solar panels and a few appliances, not ventilation.
Exchanger required, with no separate amount: in the House options of the construction guide v1.8, it is a mandatory component, ENERGY STAR or compliant with the federal regulation.
Not shown here: the manufacturer’s sheets and product pages contradict each other for three models, and the Canadian list could not be checked. We claim it for no model.
Number on each product page when it exists. The airflows and efficiencies in section 04 come from the HVI directory, section III.

09 · FAQ
The questions we get about vänEE
Who makes vänEE air exchangers?
Venmar Ventilation ULC in Drummondville, which merged with Broan-NuTone in 2018. The factory address is printed on the spec sheets and the installation guide.
Why does the manufacturer’s site say “Broan AI Series”?
The manufacturer now lists the current V models as the Broan AI Series; discontinued models keep the vänEE name. The model numbers (V160H75RS, for example) are the same.
What do 65, 75 and 80 mean in the number?
The core grade, going by the replacement cores sold as “65%” and “75%”. It is not the measured efficiency: compare the SRE on the sheet instead, at the same test airflow.
HRV or ERV: which one?
The HRV (letter H) removes excess moisture and needs a drain. The ERV (letter E) keeps part of it and has no drain. The tool in section 02 points the way; the choice is confirmed on site.
Does an ERV need a drain?
No. According to the AI Series installation guide, only the H models (HRV) have a drain, supplied with its hose.
What do the letters T and S at the end mean?
T: ports on top. S: ports on the side. Same unit, different connection.
How much height do I need under the ceiling?
The unit alone is 19 1/8 in (small cabinet, side ports) to 21 11/16 in (large cabinet, top ports) tall, per our product sheets. Ducts, hanging and panel access need more room: we measure it on site. The tool in section 04 compares the four cabinets.
What does the letter R or N mean?
R: recirculation mode is offered. N: it is not, according to the installation guide’s note on the V150 models.
What does the vänEE warranty cover?
Parts 5 years if the core is maintained, HRV core 10 years, ERV core 5 years. Labour and shipping are not covered by the manufacturer. Original invoice required.
How much power does a vänEE AI Series unit draw?
From 15 to 30 W at the 0 °C test airflow, depending on the model (HVI directory, shown on our product sheets). The table in section 03 gives each model’s value.
Does Rénoclimat still pay for an air exchanger?
Not for new files: since October 1, 2026, HRVs and ERVs are no longer eligible. A file already started follows the old rules if the post-work evaluation is done by March 31, 2027.
Does LogisVert cover an air exchanger?
Not for a homeowner: the residential guide v1.10 does not include it. For new-home builders, the exchanger is one of the requirements, with no amount of its own.
Are vänEE units ENERGY STAR certified?
We do not claim it for any model: the manufacturer’s documents contradict each other and the Canadian list could not be checked.
How much does an installed vänEE air exchanger cost?
Price on quotation: it depends on the model, the ducts and the house. The on-site estimate is free.
