Ormstown: houses and rural properties
Ormstown is part of the Le Haut-Saint-Laurent RCM, in Montérégie. Most of our work there is in single-family homes, village houses and country properties. On a large lot the outdoor unit is easy to place, but snow, maintenance access and a solid base must be planned. Our teams come from our Montréal office, about 60 km away, and also work in nearby towns: Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, Hinchinbrooke, Franklin and Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka.
Ormstown by the numbers: the 2021 Census
In the 2021 Census, Ormstown had 3,917 residents (up 9.0% since 2016) on 142.2 km², or 28 people per km². Of 1,710 occupied dwellings, 76% are single-detached houses, 16% are apartments in duplexes or buildings under five storeys and 6% are semi-detached and row houses. 69% of homes were built before 1981 and 17% since 2001; 70% of households own their home. A good share of these houses was built before today's insulation standards: before choosing a heat pump, we look at insulation, windows and the electrical panel's amperage. Where to install the outdoor unit in Ormstown
In Ormstown, where 76% of homes are single-detached houses, the outdoor unit usually sits on a raised ground pad or a wall bracket at the side or back of the house. We keep it above the snow, away from neighbours' windows, and respect the setbacks set by the municipality. Before installing, see our page on permits and bylaws in Ormstown.
Humid summers, cold winters: choosing the right capacity
In Ormstown, as everywhere in southern Québec, summer brings humid heat waves and winter long stretches below freezing. A correctly sized heat pump dries the air in July without short cycling, and a cold-climate model keeps heating in January. We size it from the floor area, orientation, windows and insulation, never by guesswork.
Repair, maintain, replace
We also repair units we did not install. Cleaning the filters and coils every spring keeps a heat pump efficient and the air healthy. And if a repair would cost more than a replacement, we say so and show you the price before any work starts.
