04 · Before installing

Four details that save a second visit

1

24 V or 240 V

A baseboard (line-voltage) thermostat does not replace a 24 V furnace or heat-pump thermostat, and vice versa. The 1E65 and BP models go on baseboards; the others control a central system or a PTAC.

2

The C wire

The Sensi Touch 2 always needs it. The Sensi and Sensi Lite need it with a heat pump. The 80 and 70 Series run on batteries or 24 V.

3

The F61-2663 wallplate

It hides the marks left by the old thermostat. It fits the 80 Series and the Sensi 1F87U, not the Blue 12 sq in.

The F61-2663 wallplate
4

The RS01-SG sensor

It measures temperature and humidity in another room. It works with the Sensi Touch 2 only.

05 · Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about EMERSON

Are Emerson, White-Rodgers and Sensi the same thing?

For our thermostats, yes. Emerson’s climate business became Copeland (Blackstone acquired 60% in 2023, then the rest in 2024). On July 29, 2025, Copeland confirmed that White-Rodgers and Sensi keep their names. Model numbers did not change, and Copeland’s manual finder still searches “Emerson, White-Rodgers or Sensi” thermostats.

Which model for a central heat pump with electric backup?

It depends on the stages. A 1-stage compressor with 1 backup stage needs 2H/1C (e.g. 1F83H, 1F75H, 1F85U-22). A 2-stage compressor needs at least 3H/2C or 4H/2C (e.g. 1F85U-42, Blue 12 sq in, Sensi). The checker in section 01 sorts it out.

And for dual fuel (heat pump + gas furnace)?

Pick a model whose spec sheet covers dual fuel: 80 Series (1F85U, 1F83H), 70 Series (1F75H), Blue 12 sq in and 6 sq in, Sensi and Sensi Touch 2. The 1F95-1277 and 1F97-1277 need an outdoor sensor for this mode.

Do I need a C wire?

For the Sensi Touch 2, always. For the Sensi and Sensi Lite, with a heat pump. The 80 and 70 Series run on batteries or 24 V. We check it during the estimate.

Are the Sensi models ENERGY STAR certified?

Yes: the Sensi 1F87U-42WFC, the Sensi Touch 2 (1F96U-42WF and 1F96U-42WFBC), the Sensi Touch 1F95U-42WFC and the Sensi Lite 1F76U-22WFBC are on the ENERGY STAR smart thermostat list (US and Canada). The White-Rodgers 24 V models are not.

Is there a rebate for a thermostat?

Énergir offers up to $100 (at most 75% of the cost) for the Sensi models on its list, if your home has natural-gas central heating: one thermostat per system, apply within 30 days of purchase. Hydro-Québec’s Hilo lists no EMERSON model, and LogisVert covers heat pumps, not thermostats.

What is the warranty?

80 and 70 Series, Classic 80: 5-year limited warranty for professionals. Blue: 5 years on the models whose sheet says so. Sensi: 5 years if bought from and installed by a contractor, otherwise 3; RS01-SG sensor: 3 years. Others: on quotation.

A thermostat for electric baseboards?

The 1E65-144 (up to 4,000 W at 240 V), the 1E65-151 and the BP150 (3,000 W at 240 V). The BP150 is programmable, with a night light. For the BP125C, the load is on quotation.

A thermostat for a PTAC?

The 70 Series 1F75P-21PR (programmable) and 1F75P-21NP, designed for Amana, GE, Friedrich and IslandAire PTAC units, with a 2-speed fan.

Which ones control humidity?

The Blue 12 sq in 1F95-1291, the Sensi 1F87U and the Sensi Touch 2. The Sensi Lite does not.

Wi-Fi, Alexa, Google?

Only the Sensi models are connected: Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings; Apple HomeKit on the Sensi 1F87U (with a C wire). The White-Rodgers 24 V and baseboard models have no Wi-Fi.

How much does it cost?

Price on quotation. The quotation is free.
