Quick facts
120 kW on 480 V to supply hot-water coils and an indirect water heater
A boiler for buildings with more than one need
The VoltMax SCR 120 (manufacturer designation: VOLTMAX SCR 120-480-3 PH) is a commercial electric boiler from Thermo 2000: 120 kW, or 409,440 BTU/h, on 480 V three-phase. It heats the water in a closed loop and belongs to the series’ configuration B, with 30 US gal of water in a 550 lb vertical cabinet.
It suits buildings that need more than space heating. A sports centre in Laval with its change rooms, a community building on the South Shore, a commercial building whose air is heated by the hot-water coils of air handling units: in these cases, the same boiler can also supply an indirect water heater.
Air heating and domestic water, set separately
The Schneider Electric controller manages two setpoints. The first sets the heating loop, with outdoor reset from the included sensor, over a range of 50 °F to 200 °F. The second setpoint is reserved for the indirect water heater, and a pump contact lets domestic hot water be served with or without priority over heating.
To meet both, the boiler modulates its output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays (SCR), on top of its relay stages, which it rotates. Thermo 2000 states that this modulation limits peak power. On 480 V three-phase, it draws 144.3 A.
In a building with a management system, it communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP, or follows a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output. Its Ethernet port also gives access to a web page and sends alarms by email. Its maximum working pressure is 125 psi (862 kPa) as standard.
Installation by AirGreen
We start with a free on-site estimate: 480 V service, mechanical room, air handling units, hot water needs. You then receive a written quote covering the boiler and what goes around it: indirect water heater, circulators and expansion tank, which Thermo 2000 does not supply.
Our crews deliver the boiler, set it in place with 24 in clear in front, 32 in above and 3 in on the sides and back, connect the loops to the 2 1/2 in NPT connections, wire the 480 V supply and the outdoor sensor, then fill and purge the circuit. At commissioning, we set both setpoints and the priority to suit how the building is used.
Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years. AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.

Coil heating and hot water from one boiler
A sports centre, a community building with change rooms or a commercial building often has two needs: heating the air through hot-water coils and producing domestic water. The 480 V VoltMax SCR 120 handles both with a second setpoint and a pump contact with or without priority.
- Sports centres and community buildings with change rooms
- Air handling units with hot-water coils
- Commercial and institutional buildings on 480 V three-phase
- Heating loops paired with an indirect water heater

Frequently asked questions
How does the boiler share heating and hot water?
The Schneider Electric controller manages a second setpoint for the indirect water heater and a pump contact, with or without domestic hot water priority. We choose the setting based on how the building is used.
Is the indirect water heater included?
No. It is ordered separately, like the circulator and expansion tank. We choose it with you and list it in the quote.
What current does it draw on 480 V?
144.3 A on 480 V three-phase, 60 Hz, according to Thermo 2000.
Can it be connected to the building management system?
Yes, over BACnet IP or MS-TP, or through a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output.
Can you install it?
Yes. We install the boiler and, where applicable, the indirect water heater, connect the loops and the 480 V supply, mount the outdoor sensor and commission it.
