Quick facts
99 kW on 480 V: the first VoltMax SCR in format B
A boiler for larger buildings
The VoltMax SCR 99 (manufacturer designation: VOLTMAX SCR 99-480-3 PH) is a commercial electric boiler from Thermo 2000: 99 kW, or 337,788 BTU/h, on 480 V three-phase. With it, the series moves to configuration B, which covers the 99 to 180 kW models. It is aimed at owners and managers of office buildings, institutional buildings and commercial buildings whose heating load goes beyond what the smaller formats cover.
It heats the water in a closed loop that serves radiators, a radiant floor, the hot-water coils of air handling units or an indirect water heater.
What configuration B brings
The configuration B cabinet holds 30 US gal of water (113.5 L) and connects through four 2 1/2 in male NPT side connections. Thermo 2000 lists a maximum working pressure of 125 psi (862 kPa) as standard. In a multi-storey building in Montreal or Laval, the height of the loop matters: we check its pressure before confirming the choice.
The format remains vertical and needs little room around it: 3 in on the sides and back, 24 in in front, 32 in above. It does weigh 550 lb, though, which takes planning: delivery route, doors, stairs or freight elevator.
The Schneider Electric controller carries the series’ functions. It modulates output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays, on top of the relay stages (a modulation that, according to Thermo 2000, limits peak power), adjusts water temperature from the included outdoor sensor, communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP and sends its alarms by email. On 480 V three-phase, the boiler draws 119.1 A.
Our work, from estimate to commissioning
The estimate is free and done on site: 480 V service, panel, loop, emitters and delivery route. You then receive a written quote that includes what Thermo 2000 does not supply, such as the circulator and expansion tank.
Our crews deliver and set the boiler in place, connect the loop in 2 1/2 in, wire the three-phase supply and the outdoor sensor, then fill and purge the circuit. We finish by setting up the controller: setpoint, outdoor reset curve, schedules and, if needed, communication with the building system.
Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years. AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.
Ask for an estimate
For a building in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or on the South Shore, ask for a free estimate: the quote is in writing and financing is available.
The first configuration B size
From 99 kW, Thermo 2000 moves to configuration B: a larger cabinet, 30 US gal of water, 2 1/2 in connections and a standard working pressure of 125 psi. The 480 V VoltMax SCR 99 is the first in that group.
- Multi-storey office and institutional buildings on 480 V
- Radiator, radiant floor or hot-water coil loops
- Commercial and light industrial buildings on 480 V three-phase
- Replacing a commercial electric boiler of comparable capacity

Frequently asked questions
What changes compared with the 90 kW and smaller models?
Models of 99 kW and up use configuration B: 30 US gal of water, 2 1/2 in NPT connections, 550 lb and a standard working pressure of 125 psi. The VoltMax SCR 99 is the first model in that format.
What working pressure does it handle?
Thermo 2000 lists 125 psi (862 kPa) as standard for configuration B. We check the loop pressure, which depends in part on the height of the building.
What current does it draw on 480 V?
119.1 A on 480 V three-phase, 60 Hz, according to Thermo 2000.
How do you get it into a basement mechanical room?
It weighs 550 lb (250 kg). We map the route during the estimate (doors, stairs, freight elevator) and plan the handling accordingly.
Can you install it?
Yes. We deliver and set the boiler in place, connect the loop to the 2 1/2 in connections, wire the 480 V supply, mount the outdoor sensor and commission it.
