Quick facts
132 kW on 480 V for large buildings, called on only as needed
An electric boiler for heavy heating loads
The VoltMax SCR 132 (manufacturer designation: VOLTMAX SCR 132-480-3 PH) is a commercial electric boiler from Thermo 2000: 132 kW, or 450,384 BTU/h, on 480 V three-phase. It belongs to the series’ configuration B and heats the water in a closed loop, whether it serves unit heaters, a radiant floor, radiators, the coils of air handling units or an indirect water heater.
It is aimed at large buildings: a vehicle service garage with a radiant floor in Laval, a neighbourhood shopping centre on the South Shore, an industrial building on the North Shore. In the 480 V VoltMax SCR range we offer, from 30 to 180 kW, it is a mid-range size: the right choice always comes from a heat-loss calculation.
Output is a matter of metering
At this size, the way the boiler draws its power matters as much as its capacity. Thermo 2000 lists 158.8 A on 480 V three-phase. Rather than switching its elements on in blocks, the VoltMax SCR modulates its output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays (SCR), on top of its relay stages, and rotates those stages. The manufacturer points out that this modulation limits peak power.
The boiler can also let the building decide. A 0-10 Vdc signal imposes the setpoint or output, and BACnet IP or MS-TP communication lets the management system read its status. Without a central system, its Schneider Electric controller relies on the included outdoor sensor, schedules and a setpoint from 50 °F to 200 °F.
On the hydronic side, the 550 lb vertical cabinet holds 30 US gal of water, connects through four 2 1/2 in male NPT side connections and carries a maximum working pressure of 125 psi (862 kPa) as standard. The Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable.
A job run by AirGreen
We start with a free on-site estimate: electrical service and distribution, mechanical room, loop, emitters, access. The written quote that follows specifies the boiler and what goes with it, including the circulator and expansion tank, which Thermo 2000 does not supply.
Our crews deliver and set the boiler in place within its clearances (24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and back), connect the loop and the 480 V supply, mount the outdoor sensor, fill and purge the circuit, then set up the controller, with the building’s integrator when there is one.
Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years. AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.

In Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or on the South Shore, ask for your free estimate: the quote is in writing, and financing is available.
A large heating load, called on as needed
At 132 kW, the way the boiler draws its power matters as much as its capacity. The VoltMax SCR 132 modulates from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays and rotates its stages, heating large 480 V buildings without switching on its full output at once.
- Large commercial and industrial buildings on 480 V three-phase
- Service garages and warehouses with radiant floors or hot-water unit heaters
- Institutional buildings whose air handling units have hot-water coils
- Replacing a high-capacity commercial electric boiler

Frequently asked questions
Why does modulation matter at this output?
Because 132 kW drawn all at once weighs heavily on the electrical service. The VoltMax SCR 132 adjusts its output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays; according to Thermo 2000, this limits peak power.
How do we know 132 kW is the right size?
Through a heat-loss calculation for the building. On 480 V, we offer the series from 30 to 180 kW, and we recommend the size that matches the calculation.
What current does it draw on 480 V?
158.8 A on 480 V three-phase, 60 Hz, according to Thermo 2000.
Can the building system control it?
Yes: a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint or output, or BACnet IP or MS-TP communication.
What does the warranty cover?
Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years (parts and accessories).
Can you install it, electrical work included?
Yes. Our RBQ licence covers electrical work: we connect the boiler to the 480 V supply, the loop and the outdoor sensor, then commission it.
