Quick facts
54 kW of hot-water heating for only 65 A, thanks to 480 V three phase
What the voltage changes
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR comes in several voltages. In a building with a 480 V three-phase supply, the 54 kW size draws a current of 65 A, according to the manufacturer. Conductors and protective devices are sized from that value, much lower than on 208 V or 240 V for the same output. The 480 V sizes we offer in this series range from 30 kW to 180 kW; this one produces 184,248 BTU/h.
A boiler for institutional buildings
A school, a community centre, a place of worship: these buildings often heat with hot water, through radiators or radiant floors, and they are maintained by a small team with other duties. The VoltMax 54 is designed for them, as well as for commercial buildings of the same size.
The Schneider Electric controller shows alarm codes, in French or English, on a 3 in backlit display. Through its Ethernet port, it gives access to a web page and sends alarms by email. It also communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP if the building has a management system, and accepts a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint or output.
On the heating side, the solid-state relay (SCR) varies output from 0 to 100%, complemented by relay stages that the controller rotates. The included outdoor sensor adjusts water temperature to the weather, within a setpoint of 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C). A second setpoint supplies an indirect water heater, for hot water in kitchens or locker rooms.
Before installation
The boiler is vertical and compact. It weighs 310 lb (141 kg), holds 11 US gal of water and can be set directly on the floor. Thermo 2000 requires 3 in of clearance on the sides and back, 24 in at the front for service and 32 in above. The list of supplied parts includes the controller, outdoor sensor, fuses and breakers, two limit controls, the relief valve and the drain valve, but not the circulator or the expansion tank. Finally, the low water cut-off is an option at 54 kW.
AirGreen takes care of it
Our on-site estimate is free. We look at the water loop, the mechanical room and the 480 V electrical service, then give you a complete written quote, circulator and expansion tank included. Our technicians install the boiler, connect it to the loop through its 1 1/2 in NPT fittings, make the electrical connection, mount the outdoor sensor, fill and purge the system and set up email alarms for your team.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
Let’s plan the work

Hot-water heating for institutional buildings on 480 V
The 480 V VoltMax 54 heats the water loop of a school, a community centre or another institutional or commercial building. Its controller alerts maintenance staff with alarm codes on the display and alarms by email.
- Schools, community centres and places of worship heated with hot water
- Commercial buildings with a 480 V three-phase supply
- Radiant floors, radiators and hydro-air coils
- Replacing an electric boiler of comparable output

Frequently asked questions
Why is the current so low?
Because the voltage is high. For the same output, a boiler on 480 V three phase draws much less current than on 208 V or 240 V. Thermo 2000 publishes 65 A for this 54 kW model.
What other sizes exist on 480 V?
The 480 V three-phase VoltMax SCR sizes we offer range from 30 kW to 180 kW. We choose the size from the building’s heating load, not from the old boiler alone.
How are maintenance staff alerted to a fault?
The controller shows an alarm code on its display, in French or English, and sends the alarm by email through its Ethernet port. It can also pass it to the building management system over BACnet IP or MS-TP.
Is the low water cut-off included?
Not on this size: it is offered as an option up to 60 kW and installed as standard above that. We note it in the quote if your installation needs one.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
A 10-year limited warranty on the tank for closed-loop heating, and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components.
