Quick facts
150 kW in a vertical format, for mechanical rooms short on space
What the VoltMax SCR 150 is and who it is for
In many commercial buildings, the boiler to be replaced sits in a narrow mechanical room surrounded by piping and electrical panels. Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR 150 lends itself well to that setting: the manufacturer describes it as a compact, vertical boiler that needs little clearance. This 150 kW version, or 511,800 BTU/h, runs on 480 V three-phase.
It is aimed at owners and managers of commercial or industrial buildings, as well as contractors preparing a replacement. Its loop can supply radiators, hot-water baseboards, a radiant floor or hydro-air coils, and its second setpoint can serve an indirect water heater.
In a Quebec mechanical room
Take a commercial building on the South Shore with a 480 V service. There, the VoltMax SCR 150 draws 180.4 A. Thermo 2000 requires 3 in of clearance on the sides and back, 24 in in front for service and 32 in above; no clearance is required underneath. It holds 30 US gal of water (113.5 L) and connects through four 2 1/2 in male NPT side connections, while the relief valve and drain are 3/4 in female NPT.
The compact format does not make it light, though: 550 lb (250 kg). Access therefore matters as much as space, and we check it before setting the delivery date. Once in place, the boiler modulates its output from 0 to 100% with solid-state relays, accepts a setpoint from 50 °F to 200 °F and adjusts the water temperature with the supplied outdoor sensor. Its Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable, an advantage when service work happens in a confined space.
The job with AirGreen
The on-site estimate is free: we measure the mechanical room and the access path, check the electrical service and examine the loop and the emitters. The written quote that follows details the boiler, the circulating pump and the expansion tank, the last two not being among the items supplied by Thermo 2000.
On the day, our crews set the boiler in place, connect the piping and the 480 V circuit, fill and purge the loop, then set up the Schneider Electric controller: setpoint, outdoor reset curve and, if needed, a BACnet link with the building management system. On warranty, Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.

Frequently asked questions
Our mechanical room is small: will the boiler fit?
Thermo 2000 requires only 3 in on the sides and back, 24 in in front and 32 in above, with no clearance underneath. We measure the room and the access path during the free estimate, since the boiler weighs 550 lb (250 kg).
Can we keep our existing radiators?
The setpoint adjusts from 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C), which allows it to supply radiators as well as a radiant floor. We check the condition of the loop and the emitters before confirming it in the quote.
How does it connect to the piping?
Through four 2 1/2 in male NPT side connections. The factory-installed relief valve and the drain valve are 3/4 in female NPT.
What maintenance does it need?
Thermo 2000 describes it as quiet, clean and low-maintenance; its Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable. The controller’s alarm codes help pinpoint a service call.
Is it available in 600 V?
Yes, the VoltMax SCR series comes in 600 V. This page covers the 480 V three-phase version, which draws 180.4 A.
