The VoltMax SCR 165 at a glance
The VoltMax SCR 165 is Thermo 2000’s 165 kW commercial electric boiler, here in its 480 V three-phase version. The manufacturer rates it at 562,980 BTU/h. It heats the water in a closed loop that feeds radiators, hot-water baseboards, a radiant floor or hydro-air coils, and it can serve an indirect water heater through a second setpoint.
It is aimed mainly at engineer-designed projects: a new industrial building, a commercial expansion, the replacement of a commercial boiler in an existing building. In those files, the boiler first has to pass the drawing review.
What the engineer and the inspector will find
Thermo 2000 publishes an engineering specification, an installation manual and a brochure for the VoltMax, gathered in the Documents section. The specification lists CSA C22.2 No. 165-92 and UL 834, a CSA B-51-14 tank, CRN registration and the ASME Section IV "H" stamp. For safety, the boiler comes with two limit controls with automatic and manual reset, a factory-installed relief valve and, since it exceeds 60 kW, a standard low-water cutoff.
For the control sequence, the Schneider Electric controller combines SCR modulation from 0 to 100% with rotation of the relay stages. It accepts a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output, communicates over BACnet IP and MS-TP, and adjusts the water temperature with the supplied outdoor sensor.
On site, in Quebec
On 480 V three-phase, the VoltMax SCR 165 draws 198.5 A; sizing the circuit is up to the engineer or the master electrician. In an industrial building in Laval, for example, the vertical boiler fits with 3 in of clearance on the sides and back, 24 in in front and 32 in above. Its four 2 1/2 in male NPT side connections, its 30 US gal of water and its 50 °F to 200 °F setpoint go straight onto the drawings. For handling, count on 550 lb (250 kg).
Our role on site
AirGreen installs the boiler to the engineer’s drawings and specification. After a free on-site estimate, we provide a written quote that specifies the circulating pump and the expansion tank, which are not on Thermo 2000’s list of supplied items. On site, our crews set the boiler in place, connect the piping and the 480 V circuit, fill and purge the loop, then commission the controller and the outdoor sensor.
A family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, we hold RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000, for its part, warrants the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Frequently asked questions
Which technical documents are available?
Thermo 2000 publishes an engineering specification, an installation manual and a French brochure, gathered in the Documents section of this page.
Which standards does the boiler meet?
According to the manufacturer’s specification: CSA C22.2 No. 165-92 and UL 834 (CSA mark for Canada and the United States), CSA B-51-14 tank, CRN registration and ASME Section IV "H" stamp.
Is the low-water cutoff included?
Yes. Thermo 2000 supplies it as standard on models above 60 kW, so on this 165 kW boiler, along with two limit controls with automatic and manual reset and a factory-installed relief valve.
Can it be controlled from a PLC or a management system?
Yes: by a 0-10 Vdc signal that sets the setpoint and the output, or over BACnet IP / MS-TP. Thermo 2000 does not mention Modbus.
Do you work with the project engineer?
Yes. We install to the engineer’s drawings and specification, connect the piping and the 480 V circuit, then commission the controller and the outdoor sensor.
