Quick facts
132 kW, modulated from 0 to 100%, to heat a building on 600 V power
A commercial boiler for buildings with a hot-water loop
The VoltMax SCR 132 is Thermo 2000’s 132 kW commercial electric boiler, in its 600 V three-phase version. The manufacturer rates it at 450,384 BTU/h and places it in its configuration B, which runs from 99 to 180 kW. Its name comes from its modulation: solid-state relays (SCR) vary the output from 0 to 100%, alongside relay stages.
It is meant for managers of apartment buildings, condominium boards and owners of commercial or institutional buildings heated with hot water: hot-water baseboards, radiators, radiant floors or hydro-air coils. It can also supply an indirect water heater, thanks to the second setpoint built into its controller.
Its place in a Quebec building
Many Quebec buildings receive 600 V three-phase power. On that service, the VoltMax SCR 132 draws 127 A. Rather than switching full blocks of power on and off, it adjusts its output to the building’s demand; Thermo 2000 points out that this modulation limits peak power demand. The supplied outdoor sensor lets the controller lower the water temperature on mild days and raise it when the cold sets in.
Take an apartment building in Montreal whose old boiler sits in a corner of the mechanical room. The VoltMax is vertical and needs only 3 in of clearance on the sides and back, 24 in in front and 32 in above. It holds 30 US gal of water, connects through four 2 1/2 in NPT side connections and accepts a setpoint from 50 °F to 200 °F. At 550 lb (250 kg), its delivery takes some preparation: access, stairs, dolly.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
We start with a free on-site estimate: electrical service, condition of the loop, existing emitters and available space. You then receive a written quote that names the boiler and everything that goes with it. The circulating pump and the expansion tank are not on Thermo 2000’s list of supplied items; we size them for your system.
On installation day, our crews set the boiler in place, connect the piping and the 600 V supply, fill and purge the loop, then set up the Schneider Electric controller and the outdoor reset curve. If the building has a management system, the boiler can be linked to it through BACnet IP or MS-TP. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. That is why we handle the boiler’s electrical connection ourselves.

Hot-water heating for a building on 600 V power
The VoltMax SCR 132 heats the water in a building’s closed loop: apartment building, condominium, commercial or institutional building. Thermo 2000 places it in its configuration B, from 99 to 180 kW, and offers it here in 600 V three-phase.
- Apartment buildings and condominiums heated with hot-water baseboards or radiators
- Replacing a commercial electric boiler at the end of its life in an existing mechanical room
- Radiant floors and hydro-air systems in commercial buildings
- Domestic hot water made by an indirect water heater, on the controller’s second setpoint

What to know before installing
- 600 V three-phase, 60 Hz power supply drawing 127 A. Overcurrent protection and conductors are selected by a master electrician according to the Code and the boiler’s data.
- Clearances required by Thermo 2000: 24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and back; none underneath.
- The boiler weighs 550 lb (250 kg): delivery to the mechanical room needs planning (access, stairs, freight elevator).
- Thermo 2000’s list of supplied items includes neither a circulating pump nor an expansion tank: we size them for the loop and list them in the quote.
- 600 V three-phase version only: the VoltMax SCR series also comes in 208, 240 and 480 V.
- Schneider Electric controller with backlit display
- Outdoor temperature sensor
- On/off control switch
- Control and power fuses and breakers
- SCR relays
- Two limit controls, automatic and manual reset
- Factory-installed relief valve
- Drain valve
- Low-water cutoff

Frequently asked questions
What does SCR modulation add compared with stages alone?
With relay stages alone, a boiler switches blocks of power on and off. The VoltMax SCR combines relay stages with solid-state relays that modulate output from 0 to 100%: it follows the building’s load closely, and Thermo 2000 states that this modulation limits peak power demand.
How much room does the mechanical room need?
Thermo 2000 requires 3 in on the sides and back, 24 in in front and 32 in above; no clearance is required underneath. Also plan a path for a 550 lb (250 kg) unit to reach the room.
Are the pump and expansion tank supplied?
No, they are not on the list of supplied items. Thermo 2000 supplies the controller, the outdoor sensor, the factory-installed relief valve, the drain valve, two limit controls and the low-water cutoff. We select the pump and tank for your loop.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
According to its documents: 10 years on the tank (limited warranty, for closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
Can you install it in our building?
Yes. After the free on-site estimate, we deliver the boiler, connect it to the hot-water loop and the 600 V circuit, then commission it: filling, purging, setting up the controller and the outdoor sensor.
