Quick facts
72 kW on 600 V for schools, offices and institutional buildings
A building heated to match its occupancy
A school, a daycare or an office building does not need the same heat at every hour. Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR 72, here on 600 V three-phase (manufacturer designation: VOLTMAX SCR 72-600-3 PH), heats the hot-water loop of this kind of building and follows its occupants’ rhythm through schedules and an included outdoor sensor.
With 72 kW, or 245,664 BTU/h, it supplies radiators, a radiant floor, the hot-water coils of an air handling unit or an indirect water heater. Thermo 2000 lists it among its commercial and institutional boilers, and its water setpoint adjusts from 50 °F to 200 °F.
600 V, the voltage of many Québec buildings
In Québec, a good share of commercial and institutional buildings receive 600 V three-phase. On that voltage, the VoltMax SCR 72 draws 69.3 A, according to Thermo 2000. We confirm it on site, at the panel, before any quote, whether the building is in Montreal, Longueuil or elsewhere on the South Shore.
The manufacturer stresses three qualities: the boiler is quiet, clean and needs little maintenance. Its Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable, and its Schneider Electric controller displays alarm codes in French or English, in °C or °F. For a janitor or a manager who is not a technician, the backlit screen makes routine checks simpler.
Output is modulated from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays (SCR), on top of the relay stages. Thermo 2000 states that this modulation limits peak power. If the building has a central management system, the boiler connects to it over BACnet IP or MS-TP, or follows a 0-10 Vdc signal.
What AirGreen does, from estimate to commissioning
We first visit the building, free of charge: 600 V service, mechanical room, existing loop and emitters. You then receive a written quote. It names the boiler and what goes around it, including the circulator and expansion tank, since Thermo 2000 does not include them in its list of supplied components.
The work is scheduled with the building’s management. Our crews set the 310 lb boiler in place leaving 24 in in front, 32 in above and 3 in on the sides and back, connect the piping to the 1 1/2 in NPT connections, wire the 600 V supply, mount the outdoor sensor, fill and purge the loop. We then program the setpoint, the outdoor reset curve and the occupancy schedules.
Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years, parts and accessories. AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.

Heating an institutional building on 600 V, to match occupancy
Schools, daycares, community halls and office buildings are not occupied around the clock. The VoltMax SCR 72 heats their hot-water loop according to outdoor temperature and to schedules, on the building’s 600 V three-phase service.
- Schools, daycares and community halls on 600 V three-phase
- Office buildings heated by radiators or a radiant floor
- Buildings that turn heating down at night and on weekends
- Replacing an electric boiler on a 600 V service

Frequently asked questions
Can heating be turned down at night and on weekends?
Yes. The controller handles schedules. Together with the outdoor sensor, they set water temperature to match occupancy and the weather. We program them with you at commissioning.
Is it noisy?
Thermo 2000 presents it as a quiet, clean, low-maintenance boiler.
Can the heating elements be replaced?
Yes. They are Incoloy immersion elements, replaceable according to Thermo 2000. The manufacturer’s warranty covers electrical and mechanical components for 2 years (parts and accessories).
What power supply is required?
600 V three-phase, 60 Hz. Thermo 2000 lists 69.3 A for this 72 kW model. The series also comes in 208 V, 240 V and 480 V.
Who handles the installation?
AirGreen. We agree with you on when the work takes place, connect the boiler to the loop and the 600 V supply, mount the outdoor sensor and commission it.
