Quick facts
A 54 kW, 600 V electric boiler for hot-water heating in workshops, warehouses and commercial buildings
For industrial and commercial buildings on 600 V
600 V three phase is a common voltage in industrial and commercial buildings in Quebec. Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR comes in this voltage, and the 54 kW size draws a current of 52 A on it, according to the manufacturer. It produces 184,248 BTU/h and heats the water in a hydronic loop: heated slab, radiators or the coils of a hydro-air system.
You find it in a mechanic’s workshop with a heated slab, in warehouse offices, in a municipal garage or in a commercial space. Its controller can also supply an indirect water heater through a second setpoint, with or without domestic hot water priority.
A properly tuned heated slab
A concrete slab reacts slowly. To keep it comfortable without overheating it, water temperature has to follow the weather. The included outdoor sensor does exactly that: when the cold deepens, the Schneider Electric controller raises the supply temperature, and it lowers it again in mild weather. The setpoint ranges from 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C), which covers a radiant floor as well as radiators.
Output, for its part, varies from 0 to 100% thanks to the solid-state relay (SCR), complemented by relay stages that the controller rotates. According to Thermo 2000, this modulation limits peak power demand. For a building run by a PLC, the setpoint and output can follow a 0-10 Vdc signal, or go through BACnet IP or MS-TP.
Practical points
The boiler is vertical and compact: 310 lb (141 kg), 11 US gal of water, and clearances of 3 in on the sides and back, 24 in at the front and 32 in above. It can sit directly on the floor. Its Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable, and the manufacturer describes it as quiet, clean and low-maintenance. The circulator and expansion tank are not among the supplied parts, and the low water cut-off is an option at 54 kW.
Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
Our installation
We start with a free on-site estimate. We survey the loop or slab, the mechanical room and the 600 V electrical service, then prepare a written quote that includes the circulator, the expansion tank and, if needed, the low water cut-off. Our technicians then install the boiler, connect it through its 1 1/2 in NPT side connections, make the electrical connection, mount the outdoor sensor, fill and purge the system, then set the heating curve with you.

Frequently asked questions
Is it suitable for a warehouse heated slab?
Yes, that is one of its applications. The setpoint starts at 50 °F and the outdoor sensor adjusts water temperature to the weather. We set the supply temperature with you based on the slab and how the building is used.
What current should be planned for on 600 V?
Thermo 2000 publishes 52 A for this 54 kW model on 600 V three phase. We size the protection and conductors from that value.
Can it be controlled from a PLC or a management system?
Yes. The setpoint and output can follow a 0-10 Vdc external signal, and the controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP. The Ethernet port also gives access to a web page and email alarms.
Can the heating elements be replaced?
Yes. Thermo 2000 uses replaceable Incoloy immersion elements, and the controller rotates the order of the stages.
Which parts are supplied?
The controller, outdoor sensor, control switch, control and power fuses and breakers, SCR relay, two limit controls, the factory-installed relief valve and the drain valve. The circulator and expansion tank are added to the quote.
