Quick facts
A building heated on its own schedule, with 144 kW on 600 V
A boiler for buildings that empty out in the evening
A school, a community centre or an office building does not have the same needs in the middle of a weekday as on a Sunday evening. Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR 144 is a 144 kW commercial electric boiler (491,328 BTU/h), here in its 600 V three-phase version. Its Schneider Electric controller handles schedules, adjusts the water temperature with the supplied outdoor sensor and modulates output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays (SCR) combined with relay stages.
It suits managers of institutional and commercial buildings, school service centres, municipalities and organizations that heat their premises with radiators, hot-water baseboards or radiant floors. It can also supply an indirect water heater through its second setpoint.
What it brings to a Quebec building
600 V three-phase power is common in Quebec’s institutional buildings; there, the VoltMax SCR 144 draws 138.6 A. In a community centre in Longueuil, for example, the outdoor sensor lowers the water temperature on mild autumn days, and the controller raises it during a cold snap, within the 50 °F to 200 °F setpoint range. In the evening and on weekends, the schedules take over.
For a manager in charge of several buildings, the Ethernet port changes daily life: a web page shows the boiler’s status and alarms arrive by email. The controller displays in French or English, in °C or °F, and also communicates over BACnet IP and MS-TP. For safety, Thermo 2000 supplies two limit controls, a factory-installed relief valve and, above 60 kW, a standard low-water cutoff.
How we install it
It all starts with a free on-site estimate, scheduled around the occupancy of your premises. We look at the 600 V service, the loop, the emitters and the access to the mechanical room: the boiler weighs 550 lb (250 kg) and needs 24 in in front, 32 in above and 3 in on the sides and back. You then receive a written quote that includes the circulating pump and the expansion tank, which are not on Thermo 2000’s list of supplied items.
At installation, our crews connect the piping and the electrical circuit, fill and purge the loop, then program the schedules, the outdoor reset curve and the email alarms with your building manager. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Heating an institutional building on its schedule
A school, a community centre or an office building is not heated the same way at night, on weekends and in the middle of the day. The VoltMax SCR 144 handles those schedules, adjusts the water to the weather and modulates its output from 0 to 100%.
- Schools, community centres and municipal buildings on 600 V power
- Office buildings occupied on a regular schedule
- Buildings whose manager is not on site at all times
- Radiator, hot-water baseboard or radiant floor loops

Frequently asked questions
Can heating be turned down at night and on weekends?
Yes. Thermo 2000 states that the controller handles schedules; we program them to match the building’s occupancy at commissioning. The supplied outdoor sensor also adjusts the water temperature to the weather.
How do we know the boiler is in alarm when nobody is on site?
Through the Ethernet port: the controller serves a web page and sends its alarms by email. It can also be linked to a building management system over BACnet IP or MS-TP.
Which safety devices are supplied?
Two limit controls, with automatic and manual reset, a factory-installed relief valve and, on this model above 60 kW, a standard low-water cutoff.
Is the display available in French?
Yes. The backlit controller displays in French or English, in °C or °F, with alarm codes.
Which warranty applies?
Thermo 2000’s: 10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
