Quick facts
A 45 kW electric boiler on 600 V for commercial and institutional construction projects
The VoltMax 45 on 600 V three phase
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax is a hot water electric boiler designed for commercial and institutional buildings. The series covers 22.5 to 180 kW. This model, designated VOLTMAX SCR 45-600-3 PH, delivers 45 kW, or 153,540 BTU/h, and draws 43.3 A on 600 V three phase. It belongs to configuration A (22.5 to 90 kW).
In a new building or an addition supplied at 600 V, it heats the water of a closed loop that serves radiant floors, radiators or the coils of ventilation units.
What designers want to know
Thermo 2000 lists the CSA C22.2 No. 165-92 and UL 834 standards for the VoltMax, with the CSA mark for Canada and the United States. The tank meets CSA B-51-14 and carries a CRN registration as well as the ASME Section IV “H” stamp. According to the manufacturer’s most recent engineering specification, the series is now offered in the SCR version only.
On the controls side, the Schneider Electric controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP and accepts an external 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output. It modulates output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays, in addition to relay stages, and Thermo 2000 points out that this modulation limits peak power demand. Its Ethernet port provides a web page and email alarms, and the outdoor sensor is included.
On the mechanical side: four 1 1/2 in male NPT side connections, relief valve and drain at 3/4 in female NPT, 11 US gal of water (41.6 L) and a weight of 310 lb (141 kg). The required clearances are 24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back, with no clearance at the floor. The setpoint ranges from 50 °F to 200 °F.
What installation by AirGreen covers
We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore. For a new project, we start from the drawings and specifications: we confirm the model, the voltage and the accessories to plan for, including the circulator and expansion tank, which are not among the parts supplied by Thermo 2000, and the low water cut-off, available as an option on this size. You receive a detailed written quote.
On site, our technicians install the boiler, connect it to the loop, pipe the relief valve discharge, mount the outdoor sensor and make the electrical connection under our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, which covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We then program the controller and coordinate the BACnet integration with the project’s integrator.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
