Quick facts
A 36 kW electric boiler on 600 V to replace the one in your school, offices or community centre
The VoltMax 36 at a glance
The VoltMax is Thermo 2000’s commercial and institutional electric boiler. This 36 kW model runs on 600 V three phase, a common voltage in Québec’s commercial and institutional buildings. It produces 122,832 BTU/h, draws 34.6 A and belongs to the series’ configuration A (22.5 to 90 kW).
Like the other SCR models, it modulates its output from 0 to 100% through solid-state relays, in addition to relay stages. Thermo 2000 points out that this modulation limits the building’s peak power demand.
Replacing a boiler at the end of its life
In a school, a community centre or an office building, the original electric boiler often reaches the end of its life while the hot water loop, radiators and floors remain in good condition. The VoltMax 36 takes its place: it connects to the existing loop through its 1 1/2 in NPT side connections and heats the water to a setpoint adjustable from 50 °F to 200 °F.
The mechanical room of an institutional building is rarely spacious. The VoltMax’s vertical design needs only 3 in of clearance on the sides and at the back, none at the floor, 24 in in front and 32 in above. The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg): we plan its route to the room, doors and stairs included.
The Schneider Electric controller is made for all staff: 3 in backlit LCD, alarm codes, display in French or English, in °C or °F. The included outdoor sensor adjusts the water to the weather. The Ethernet port provides a web page and email alarms, and the controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP with a building management system.
What installation by AirGreen covers
The on-site estimate is free in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore. We survey the boiler in place, the 600 V supply, and the condition of the loop, circulator and expansion tank, since these two parts are not supplied with the VoltMax. The written quote describes the removal of the old unit, the installation of the new boiler and the parts to replace.
On the day of the work, we drain the loop, remove the old boiler, set the VoltMax in place and connect it. We pipe the discharge of the factory-installed relief valve, mount the outdoor sensor and make the electrical connection. The loop is then filled and purged, and the controller is programmed with your maintenance lead.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Replacing an electric boiler in a 600 V building
In a school, a community centre or an office building supplied at 600 V, the VoltMax 36 takes over from an electric boiler at the end of its life: it heats the water of the existing loop and sends it back to the radiators, floors or coils.
- Schools, community centres and institutional buildings on 600 V
- Replacing an end-of-life electric boiler on an existing loop
- Cramped mechanical rooms, thanks to the small side clearances
- Buildings where several people read the controller, in French or English

What to know before installing
- 600 V three-phase, 60 Hz supply, for a current of 34.6 A. The electrician sizes the protection and conductors from that value.
- For a replacement, we check the condition of the loop and of the existing circulator and expansion tank: these two parts are not supplied with the boiler.
- Clearances: 24 in in front and 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back, none at the floor.
- The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg): we plan its route to the mechanical room, doors and stairs included.
- Low water cut-off: optional on this size, standard above 60 kW.
- Schneider Electric controller with backlit display
- Outdoor temperature sensor
- Control ON/OFF switch
- Control and power fuses and breakers
- SCR relays
- 2 limit controls, one automatic, one manual
- Factory-installed relief valve
- Drain valve

Frequently asked questions
Can the VoltMax replace our electric boiler without redoing the loop?
In many cases, yes: it connects to the existing loop through its 1 1/2 in NPT connections. We first check the output needed, the condition of the loop and the 600 V supply during the free estimate.
Does the controller display in French?
Yes. Thermo 2000 lists a display in French or English, in °C or °F, with alarm codes on a 3 in backlit screen.
What water temperature can it supply?
The setpoint ranges from 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C). With the included outdoor sensor, the controller lowers or raises the water temperature with the weather.
Can maintenance staff be alerted to an alarm?
Yes. The controller’s Ethernet port provides a web page and email alarms, and the controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP with a building management system.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
The tank is covered for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years, parts and accessories.
