Quick facts
A 10 kW furnace that modulates its heat and welcomes a heat pump
The SFE1021 and the homes it suits best
The Stelpro SFE1021 is an all-electric furnace: elements heat the air and a 1/3 HP 4-speed motor moves it through the ducts. What sets it apart is its electronic board, which modulates the elements instead of switching them on all at once. It suits a house or unit that already has ductwork, when the heat loss calculation comes to 10 kW: a bungalow, a two-level condo or a plex unit, for example.
Stelpro equips it with an Eco mode, a built-in temperature sensor and two manual-reset thermal cut-outs. The elements are framed individually, and the galvanized steel cabinet, finished in charcoal powder paint, weighs 45 kg (100 lb).
How it fits a Quebec home
In many ducted homes, the original furnace has been sitting in the basement for decades. The SFE1021 takes its place on the same ductwork. It accepts a 24 V thermostat with 1 or 2 stages, and Stelpro also allows a thermostat with an outdoor sensor. It installs upflow, downflow (with the FSB2 adapter, sold separately) or horizontal, and can stand against a wall with zero clearance, which helps in a narrow mechanical room.
If a central heat pump is part of your plans, the board is ready: it compensates during defrost and offers two installation modes. In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is downstream and the elements stay off while it answers the call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace takes over when the cold reduces its capacity.
One detail to check: on a 208 V supply, Stelpro publishes 7.5 kW instead of 10 kW. We confirm your building’s voltage before recommending this model.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. It all starts with a free on-site estimate: we measure the space, look at the condition of the ducts and check that the electrical panel can supply a total amperage of 44 A at 240 V. You then receive a written quote.
On installation day, our technicians:
- remove the old unit and set the SFE1021 in the chosen configuration;
- connect it to the ductwork;
- make the electrical connection according to Stelpro’s manual and the rating plate;
- set up the board and the thermostat, then start the furnace with you.
Plan for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in filter: it is not supplied with the furnace.
Let’s talk about your home
If you live in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or the South Shore, ask for your free estimate: we confirm the output you need, give you a written quote and walk you through our financing options.
A 10 kW furnace for a home that already has ductwork
The SFE1021 heats air with electric elements that its board modulates to match the demand, then moves it through the ducts with a 1/3 HP 4-speed motor. It can also take a central heat pump, now or later.
- Replacing an old furnace in a ducted house or unit
- Bungalows, condos and plex units whose heat loss calculation comes to 10 kW
- Projects that add a central heat pump to the existing ductwork
- Narrow mechanical rooms: the cabinet installs with zero clearance against a wall

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- 240 or 208 VAC power supply, for a total amperage of 44 A at 240 V (38 A at 208 V). Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- On 208 V, the published output drops to 7.5 kW: we check the building’s voltage before recommending this model.
- The filter is not supplied: plan for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in filter.
- The FSB2 adapter (downflow) and the SCOND neutral terminal block are sold separately.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
Can a central heat pump be added to this furnace?
Yes. Stelpro states it is compatible with a heat pump installation. In Type A (factory setting), the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. We choose the mode based on where the coil goes.
Does it run on a 208 V supply?
Yes. Stelpro publishes 7.5 kW and 38 A at 208 V, compared with 10 kW and 44 A at 240 V. If your building is on 208 V, we factor it into the choice of output.
Is the filter supplied?
No. The furnace has a frame that takes a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter, bought separately.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
Does it qualify for a grant?
No, not when sold alone: an electric furnace is not a heat pump, so it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
