Quick facts
10 kW of electric heat and an ECM motor that adjusts airflow to each mode
What the SFECM version brings
The SFECM1021 has the same output as the SFE1021: 10 kW at 240 V, with elements modulated by an electronic board. The difference is in the blower. Stelpro fits it with a 1/2 HP variable-speed ECM motor, which it highlights for constant airflow and better efficiency. 7-position potentiometers set the airflow for each situation: low or high continuous fan, first- or second-stage heating, cooling.
This version is for homeowners who keep the fan running for much of the year to move air between the basement and the upper floors, or who plan a humidifier, an air cleaner or a central heat pump.
Its place in a Quebec home
Take a semi-detached cottage in Laval, heated through ducts, whose original furnace is reaching the end of its life. The SFECM1021 goes in the same spot: upflow, downflow with the FSB2 adapter (sold separately) or horizontal, and with zero clearance against a wall. It accepts a 24 V thermostat with 1 or 2 stages, or a thermostat with an outdoor sensor.
Its board adds terminals the SFE does not have: Y2 for two-stage cooling, plus a humidifier and an air cleaner. With a heat pump, Stelpro provides two modes. In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is downstream and the elements stay off during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost.
At 208 V, the published output is 7.5 kW and the total amperage 38 A, compared with 44 A at 240 V.
AirGreen’s installation, step by step
- Free on-site estimate: heating needs, duct condition and electrical panel capacity.
- Written quote, with the model and the accessories required: 20 x 20 x 1 in filter, FSB2 adapter or SCOND neutral terminal block if needed.
- Removal of the old unit, placement of the furnace and connection to the ducts.
- Electrical connection according to Stelpro’s manual and the rating plate.
- Setting of the airflow potentiometers to suit your ductwork, then start-up with you.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work: the same team handles the ducts, the wiring and, when the time comes, your heat pump.

A 10 kW furnace that adjusts its airflow to each mode
The SFECM1021 heats air with elements modulated by its electronic board. Its 1/2 HP ECM motor varies its speed, and potentiometers set the airflow for continuous fan, heating and cooling.
- Ducted houses and units whose heat loss calculation comes to 10 kW
- Projects with a central heat pump offering two cooling stages (Y2 terminal)
- Homes adding a humidifier or an air cleaner to the system
- Replacing an old furnace with an ECM-motor model

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- 240 or 208 VAC power supply: total amperage of 44 A at 240 V and 38 A at 208 V. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- Airflow is set during commissioning to suit the ductwork: plan for access to the board and its potentiometers.
- Filter not supplied: the frame takes a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in filter.
- The FSB2 downflow adapter and the SCOND neutral terminal block are sold separately.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
How is it different from the SFE1021?
Both deliver 10 kW at 240 V with the same modulating electronic board. The SFECM1021 uses a 1/2 HP variable-speed ECM motor, set with potentiometers, and adds the Y2, air cleaner and humidifier terminals the SFE does not have.
Can it be paired with a central heat pump?
Yes. In Type A (factory setting), the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost, and the Y2 terminal accepts two-stage cooling.
Can a humidifier be connected?
Yes. The SFECM board has terminals for a humidifier and an air cleaner. Those units are chosen and sold separately.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
Does it qualify for a grant?
Not when sold alone. An electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
