Quick facts
15 kW, precisely modulated, on the ductwork you already have
What the SFE1521 does
The Stelpro SFE1521 is a 15 kW electric furnace at 240 V. Its electronic board modulates individually framed elements instead of switching them on all at once, and a 1/3 HP motor moves the air through the ducts at one of its four speeds, from 800 to 1,000 CFM at 0.5 in w.c. It also has an Eco mode, a built-in temperature sensor and continuous heat buttons, published at 2.5 kW minimum and 5 kW maximum.
It is aimed mainly at two-storey houses and cottages heated through ducts, when the heat loss calculation comes to 15 kW. Stelpro sells the SFE models in Quebec only.
Example: a two-storey cottage
In a cottage in Longueuil or elsewhere on the South Shore, the furnace often sits in the basement, feeding ductwork that serves two floors. The SFE1521 installs there upflow, set against the wall with zero clearance. If the unit has to lie on its side, the horizontal configuration is provided for. For ductwork that runs downward, Stelpro offers the FSB2 adapter, sold separately.
On the electrical side, Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 65 A at 240 V. In a building supplied at 208 V, the output drops to 11.2 kW and the amperage to 56 A. We always check this before choosing the output.
With a central heat pump: Type A or Type B
Stelpro states the SFE1521 is compatible with a heat pump installation and provides two ways to set it up. In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is placed downstream: when it is calling, the elements do not heat. In Type B, it is on the return side, and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity when the cold sets in. In both cases, the board compensates during defrost.
How we install it
A family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. After a free on-site estimate and a written quote, our technicians remove the old unit, set the furnace, connect it to the ducts and make the electrical connection according to Stelpro’s manual and the rating plate.
They then choose the motor speed to suit your ductwork, set up the thermostat (24 V, 1 or 2 stages) and check operation with you. The 20 x 20 x 1 in filter is not supplied with the furnace: we account for it in the quote.
Ask for your estimate
For a home in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or the South Shore, ask for your free estimate. You receive a written quote, advice on the output to choose and, if needed, a financing solution.
15 kW for a ducted home
The SFE1521 replaces an existing furnace on the same ductwork. Its electronic board modulates individually framed elements, and its 1/3 HP motor offers four speeds between 800 and 1,000 CFM.
- Two-storey houses and cottages whose heat loss calculation comes to 15 kW
- Replacing a furnace at the end of its life, on the existing ductwork
- Pairing with a central heat pump, with electric backup in cold weather (Type B)
- Basement or horizontal installations, set against a wall
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Total amperage of 65 A at 240 V (56 A at 208 V): we check the panel’s capacity. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- At 208 V, the published output drops to 11.2 kW.
- The 930 CFM speed is optional and is not wired at the factory.
- Filter not supplied (frame for 20 x 20 x 1 in). The FSB2 adapter and the SCOND neutral terminal block are sold separately.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
What are the continuous heat buttons for?
The SFE1521 board has continuous heat buttons. Stelpro publishes 2.5 kW at the minimum setting and 5 kW at the maximum setting for this model. Continuous fan has its own buttons too, at low or high speed.
Which mode should be used with a heat pump?
Stelpro provides two modes. In Type A (factory setting), the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The choice depends on where the coil goes: we decide it on site.
What amperage should be planned for?
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 65 A at 240 V and 56 A at 208 V. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate before wiring.
Is the filter included?
No. The furnace frame takes a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter, sold separately.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
A 5-year warranty from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only and not transferable. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
