Quick facts
A 17.5 kW ECM furnace for better-controlled air, summer and winter
The idea: modulated elements, tailored airflow
The Stelpro SFECM1821 produces 17.5 kW at 240 V with individually framed elements modulated by an electronic board, like the whole SFE series. What changes is the motor: a 1/2 HP variable-speed ECM, which Stelpro highlights for constant airflow and better efficiency. 7-position potentiometers set the airflow for each mode, so continuous fan, heating and cooling do not run at the same speed.
The 18 in its model number is a code: Stelpro publishes 17.5 kW, an output between the 15 and 20 kW sizes.
Which homes it suits
Think of a two-storey house on the South Shore with a finished basement, heated through ducts. The basement stays cool while the upper floor warms up: a low-speed continuous fan helps move air between the levels. The SFECM1821 installs in the basement upflow, against a wall with zero clearance, horizontal, or downflow with the FSB2 adapter, sold separately.
It also suits the owner who is replacing an old furnace and wants the house ready for a central heat pump, without redoing everything the day it arrives.
Dry winters, humid summers: the extra connections
The SFECM board has terminals the SFE does not offer: a humidifier for winter, an air cleaner, and Y2 for two-stage cooling. With a central heat pump, Stelpro provides two modes. In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is downstream and the elements stay off during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost.
Installation and electricity
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 75 A at 240 V. At 208 V, the amperage is 66 A and the output 13.2 kW. We check your electrical service during the free estimate, then the breaker and conductor sizes from the installation manual and the rating plate.
AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. After the written quote, our technicians remove the old unit, install and connect the furnace, make the electrical connection, set each airflow to suit your ductwork and explain the thermostat to you. The 20 x 20 x 1 in filter is not supplied: we add it to the quote.
Taking the next step
Whether you are in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or the South Shore, ask for a free estimate. You will receive a written quote and, if you wish, a financing option.
17.5 kW and airflow set for every season
The SFECM1821 combines the in-between 17.5 kW output with a variable-speed ECM motor. Its airflow is set separately for heating, cooling and continuous fan.
- Homes whose heat loss calculation comes to 17.5 kW
- Homes with a finished basement where the fan runs continuously
- Systems with a humidifier or an air cleaner connected to the furnace
- Pairing with a central heat pump with two cooling stages

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Total amperage of 75 A at 240 V and 66 A at 208 V. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- At 208 V, Stelpro publishes 13.2 kW instead of 17.5 kW.
- Airflow is set during commissioning: the board and its potentiometers must stay accessible.
- Not included: 20 x 20 x 1 in filter, FSB2 adapter for downflow, SCOND neutral terminal block.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
Why 17.5 kW if the model is called SFECM1821?
The 18 in the model number is a code. Stelpro publishes 17.5 kW at 240 V and 13.2 kW at 208 V: that is the output we use for sizing.
Can the fan run all day?
Yes. The board has buttons for low or high continuous fan. Stelpro publishes an adjustable range of 300 to 700 CFM on low and 700 to 1,100 CFM on high: we set it to suit your ductwork.
Can a humidifier or an air cleaner be connected?
Yes. The SFECM has terminals for a humidifier and an air cleaner. Those units are chosen and sold separately.
Does it work with a two-stage heat pump?
Yes. The Y2 terminal accepts two-stage cooling. Stelpro also provides two pairing modes: Type A (factory setting, heat pump downstream, elements off during its call) or Type B (heat pump on the return side, furnace backup in cold weather).
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
