Quick facts
20 kW of modulated electric heat for homes that need more
What you get with the SFE2021
The Stelpro SFE2021 produces 20 kW at 240 V. Like the whole SFE series, it modulates its individually framed elements with an electronic board that has an Eco mode and a built-in temperature sensor. Its 1/3 HP motor offers four speeds: 900, 1,110 and 1,200 CFM wired at the factory, and an optional 950 CFM speed, all measured at 0.5 in w.c. The continuous heat buttons are published at 2.5 kW minimum and 5 kW maximum, and two manual-reset thermal cut-outs protect the unit.
SFE2021 or the 1 HP version
Stelpro offers a 1 HP motor from 20 kW up. The SFE2021 keeps the standard motor: it is the logical choice when the existing ducts and the matched equipment are well served by 900 to 1,200 CFM. If the ductwork or a future heat pump coil calls for more air, the SFE20211HP, with the same output, is worth comparing. We check this during the estimate.
Example: an extended home
In Laval, many houses have gained a room or two over the years of renovations, and the ductwork has followed. When the old furnace is no longer enough, the SFE2021 goes in the same spot: upflow, set against a wall with zero clearance, horizontal, or downflow with the FSB2 adapter, sold separately. In this kind of house, the ducts often serve rooms far from the furnace: we look at the ductwork before choosing the motor speed.
With a central heat pump, the board offers two modes. In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is downstream and the elements stay off during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity when it is cold. On the electrical side, Stelpro publishes 85 A at 240 V. At 208 V, the amperage becomes 74 A and the output 15 kW: a point to confirm before ordering.
AirGreen’s installation
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We start with a free on-site estimate and a written quote. Our technicians then remove the old unit, install the SFE2021, connect it to the ducts, make the electrical connection according to Stelpro’s manual and the rating plate, choose the motor speed and set up the 24 V thermostat with 1 or 2 stages. Plan for the 20 x 20 x 1 in filter: it is not supplied.

20 kW for a large ducted home
The SFE2021 is the standard-motor 20 kW model of the SFE series. Its board modulates the elements to match the demand and its 1/3 HP motor offers four speeds, from 900 to 1,200 CFM at 0.5 in w.c.
- Large homes whose heat loss calculation comes to 20 kW
- Extended homes whose ductwork has been lengthened
- Replacing a high-output furnace on the same ductwork
- Pairing with a central heat pump, with backup in cold weather
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Total amperage of 85 A at 240 V (74 A at 208 V). Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- At 208 V, the published output drops to 15 kW.
- The 950 CFM speed is optional and is not wired at the factory. For higher airflow, Stelpro offers a version with a 1 HP motor (SFE20211HP).
- Not included: 20 x 20 x 1 in filter, FSB2 adapter (downflow) and SCOND neutral terminal block.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
How is it different from the SFE20211HP?
Both deliver 20 kW at 240 V. The SFE20211HP has a 1 HP motor for higher airflow. The SFE2021 keeps the 1/3 HP 4-speed motor, from 900 to 1,200 CFM. The choice depends on the airflow your ducts and the matched equipment require.
What amperage should be planned for?
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 85 A at 240 V and 74 A at 208 V. We check your electrical service’s capacity during the estimate, then the breaker and conductors from the manual and the rating plate.
Can I use it with a heat pump?
Yes. In Type A (factory setting), the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost.
Can it be installed in a tight space?
The cabinet can stand against a wall with zero clearance, and Stelpro provides three configurations: upflow, downflow (FSB2 adapter) or horizontal. We measure the space and check service access before ordering.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
