Quick facts
The same 20 kW, with a 1 HP motor for duct systems that need more air
Why a 1 HP motor
A furnace only heats the house well if air flows through the whole duct system. The Stelpro SFE20211HP keeps the 20 kW output at 240 V and the modulating electronic board of the SFE series, but hands the air moving to a 1 HP motor. Stelpro publishes three speeds: 1,600, 1,650 and 1,800 CFM, measured at 0.5 in w.c.
The rest of the equipment is all there: Eco mode, built-in temperature sensor, individually framed elements, two manual-reset thermal cut-outs and continuous heat buttons published at 2.5 kW minimum and 5 kW maximum.
When to choose it
Take a large three-level house on the North Shore, heated by a single furnace in the basement. The top-floor bedrooms are far away and the ducts are long. A blower that is too weak shows quickly: distant rooms stay cooler and air barely comes out of the registers. In this kind of system, or when a central heat pump coil needs high airflow, the 1 HP motor makes the difference. Conversely, if the ductwork is fine with more modest airflow, the standard-motor SFE2021 may be enough: we compare the two during the estimate.
The 48 kg (105 lb) cabinet installs upflow, downflow with the FSB2 adapter (sold separately) or horizontal, and can stand against a wall with zero clearance.
With a central heat pump
Stelpro states the furnace is compatible with a heat pump. In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost.
Installation and electricity
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 88 A at 240 V and 77 A at 208 V, a voltage at which the output drops to 15 kW. AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. After a free estimate and a written quote, our technicians set the furnace, connect it to the ducts, make the electrical connection according to the manual and the rating plate, choose the motor speed to suit the ductwork and set up the thermostat. The 20 x 20 x 1 in filter is not supplied.
Let’s talk about your ductwork
In Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or the South Shore, ask for a free estimate: we assess the airflow your home needs, give you a written quote and present the financing available.
20 kW and high airflow for large duct systems
The SFE20211HP keeps the 20 kW output and the modulating board of the SFE series, with a 1 HP motor that moves much more air: 1,600 to 1,800 CFM at 0.5 in w.c., depending on the speed.
- Large homes whose ductwork calls for high airflow
- Three-level homes served by a single furnace
- Projects whose heat pump coil needs more air than the standard motor provides
- Replacing a 20 kW furnace whose blower struggled to supply the whole system
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Total amperage of 88 A at 240 V and 77 A at 208 V. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- At 208 V, the published output drops to 15 kW.
- The cabinet weighs 48 kg (105 lb): access to the mechanical room is checked during the estimate.
- Not included: 20 x 20 x 1 in filter, FSB2 adapter (downflow) and SCOND neutral terminal block.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
When should the 1 HP version be chosen over the SFE2021?
When the ductwork or the matched equipment needs more air. Both deliver 20 kW. With its 1 HP motor, the SFE20211HP publishes 1,600 to 1,800 CFM. We look at the ductwork before deciding.
Does the larger motor change the power supply?
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 88 A at 240 V and 77 A at 208 V for this model. We account for it when checking your panel during the estimate, then confirm the breaker and conductors from the manual and the rating plate.
Can it be paired with a heat pump?
Yes. In Type A (factory setting), the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost.
How much does it weigh?
Stelpro publishes 48 kg (105 lb) for the 1 HP version. We plan the handling accordingly, especially for a basement installation.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
