Quick facts
27.5 kW and a 1 HP ECM motor: high output, finely tuned
Wide airflow ranges, set mode by mode
The Stelpro SFECM2721 produces 27.5 kW at 240 V with the SFE series’ modulating electronic board: individually framed elements, Eco mode, built-in temperature sensor, two manual-reset thermal cut-outs. Its motor is a 1 HP variable-speed ECM, and that is what sets it apart. 7-position potentiometers set an airflow specific to each mode, within wide ranges: continuous fan goes from 400 to 2,000 CFM depending on the low or high setting, and both heating and cooling go up to 2,200 CFM. Stelpro points to this motor’s constant airflow and better efficiency.
The 27 in the model number is a code: the published output is 27.5 kW.
Example: a duplex turned single-family home
In Montreal, owners sometimes convert a duplex into a large single-family home, heated by one duct system over two floors and a basement. If the heat loss calculation comes to 27.5 kW, the SFECM2721 can heat the whole house and supply a central heat pump coil that needs a lot of air. A single, well-adjusted unit then replaces the old duplex’s two furnaces, if there were two.
With the heat pump, Stelpro provides Type A (factory setting: heat pump downstream, elements off during its call) or Type B (heat pump on the return side: furnace backup in cold weather). The board also compensates during defrost, and the Y2 terminal accepts two-stage cooling. Two other terminals take a humidifier and an air cleaner.
Electricity: an amperage to plan for
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 119 A at 240 V and 104 A at 208 V, a voltage at which the output drops to 20.7 kW. We check the electrical service’s capacity right at the estimate, then the breaker and conductor sizes from the installation manual and the rating plate.
AirGreen’s installation
AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. After the free estimate and the written quote, our technicians set the 48 kg (105 lb) furnace upflow, downflow (FSB2 adapter, sold separately) or horizontal, connect it to the ducts, make the electrical connection, set each airflow range and configure the thermostat. The 20 x 20 x 1 in filter is not supplied, nor is the SCOND neutral terminal block.

27.5 kW with airflow set for each mode
The SFECM2721 modulates 27.5 kW of elements with an electronic board and leaves air moving to a 1 HP ECM motor. 7-position potentiometers set the airflow for continuous fan, W1 and W2 heating and Y1 cooling.
- Very large homes whose heat loss calculation comes to 27.5 kW
- Plexes converted into a single-family home, on one duct system
- Central heat pumps whose coil needs high airflow
- Systems with a humidifier or an air cleaner connected to the board
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Total amperage of 119 A at 240 V (104 A at 208 V): the electrical service’s capacity is checked first. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the installation manual and the rating plate.
- At 208 V, the published output drops to 20.7 kW.
- Each airflow is set during commissioning, to suit the ductwork and the matched equipment.
- 48 kg (105 lb) cabinet. Not included: 20 x 20 x 1 in filter, FSB2 adapter and SCOND neutral terminal block.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
Why 27.5 kW if the model is called SFECM2721?
The 27 in the model number is a code. Stelpro publishes 27.5 kW at 240 V and 20.7 kW at 208 V: that is the output used for sizing.
How is it different from the SFE2721?
The output is the same. The SFE2721 has a 1 HP motor with preset speeds. The SFECM2721 has a 1 HP variable-speed ECM motor, set with potentiometers for each mode, and adds the Y2, air cleaner and humidifier terminals.
How high does cooling airflow go?
Stelpro publishes an adjustable range that goes up to 2,200 CFM in cooling (Y1). The final setting depends on the matched outdoor unit and coil: we set it during commissioning.
Can my electrical service supply it?
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 119 A at 240 V and 104 A at 208 V. We check your service’s capacity and the room in the panel during the estimate, then the breaker and conductors from the manual and the rating plate.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
