Quick facts
22.5 kW and a 1 HP ECM motor: the most complete version in the series at this output
Four 22.5 kW versions: how to tell them apart
Stelpro offers four 22.5 kW furnaces in the SFE family. They share the same output and the same modulating electronic board, but differ in the motor:
- SFE2321: 1/3 HP motor with preset speeds;
- SFE23211HP: 1 HP motor with preset speeds, for more air;
- SFECM2321: 1/2 HP variable-speed ECM motor;
- SFECM23211HP: 1 HP variable-speed ECM motor, the model on this page.
The SFECM23211HP therefore combines the airflow of a 1 HP motor with the flexibility of an ECM motor, which Stelpro highlights for constant airflow and better efficiency. 7-position potentiometers set the airflow for each mode. The 23 in the model number is a code: the published output is 22.5 kW at 240 V.
Which type of home it suits
It is aimed at large homes whose heat loss calculation comes to 22.5 kW and whose ductwork is long or highly branched: a cottage in Longueuil with a finished basement and a full upper floor, for example, or a home getting a central heat pump whose coil needs high airflow. Before ordering, we confirm the airflow ranges specific to this code from Stelpro’s documentation.
Heat pump, cooling and air quality
In Type A, the factory setting, the heat pump is downstream and the elements stay off during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The board also compensates during defrost. The SFECM’s Y2, air cleaner and humidifier terminals allow two-stage cooling and the connection of indoor air quality accessories.
Electricity and installation
Stelpro publishes a total amperage of 99 A at 240 V and 87 A at 208 V, a voltage at which the output becomes 16.9 kW. The cabinet weighs 48 kg (105 lb). AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years and holder of RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work, checks your electrical service during the free estimate, then gives you a written quote.
Our technicians set the furnace upflow, downflow (FSB2 adapter, sold separately) or horizontal, connect it to the ducts, make the connection according to the manual and the rating plate, then set each airflow. The 20 x 20 x 1 in filter is not supplied.

The most complete version in the series at 22.5 kW
The SFECM23211HP brings together the 22.5 kW output, the SFE series’ modulating board and a 1 HP ECM motor. 7-position potentiometers set the airflow for each mode.
- Large homes whose heat loss calculation comes to 22.5 kW
- Extensive duct systems that need high airflow
- Two-stage central heat pump, with furnace backup in cold weather
- Homes with a humidifier or an air cleaner connected to the board

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Total amperage of 99 A at 240 V (87 A at 208 V): the electrical service is checked before choosing this model. Breaker and conductor sizes are confirmed from the manual and the rating plate.
- At 208 V, the published output drops to 16.9 kW.
- The airflow ranges specific to this code are confirmed from Stelpro’s documentation before ordering.
- 48 kg (105 lb) cabinet. Not included: 20 x 20 x 1 in filter, FSB2 adapter and SCOND neutral terminal block.
- Filter frame for a standard 20 x 20 x 1 in air filter (filter not included)

Frequently asked questions
Why 22.5 kW if the model is called SFECM23211HP?
The 23 in the model number is a code. Stelpro publishes 22.5 kW at 240 V and 16.9 kW at 208 V for this model: that is the output used for sizing.
What airflow does it deliver?
Airflow is set with 7-position potentiometers, mode by mode. The ranges published for this exact code are confirmed from Stelpro’s documentation: we check them before ordering and set the motor to suit your ductwork.
Which 22.5 kW version should I choose?
All of them deliver 22.5 kW with the same board. The SFE2321 has a 1/3 HP motor, the SFE23211HP a 1 HP motor, the SFECM2321 a 1/2 HP ECM motor and the SFECM23211HP a 1 HP ECM motor. The airflow your ductwork needs and the planned accessories guide the choice.
Can it be paired with a heat pump?
Yes. In Type A (factory setting), the heat pump is downstream and the elements do not heat during its call. In Type B, it is on the return side and the furnace makes up for its loss of capacity in cold weather. The Y2 terminal accepts two-stage cooling.
What warranty does Stelpro offer?
Stelpro warrants the furnace for 5 years from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship, for the original purchaser only. Disconnection, transport and installation are not covered by the manufacturer.
