Quick facts
A 2,000 CFM unit heater, with the data needed to design the loop properly
The Sterling HSB13211 and the buildings it serves
The HSB13211 is a horizontal hot-water unit heater from Sterling’s HS series. Hung from the ceiling, it blows 2,000 CFM of air warmed by the water from your loop, at 950 FPM at the outlet, through horizontal louvers that come standard. With 200°F entering water, 60°F entering air and a 20°F drop, Sterling publishes 95,800 BTU/h.
We propose it for neighbourhood logistics centres, machine or fabrication shops and retailers’ warehouses heated by an electric boiler. It also fits a project converting a building to an electric hot-water loop.
The design data, one by one
- Output. 95,800 BTU/h at 200°F. Below that temperature, Sterling publishes the factors: 0.857 at 180°F, 0.715 at 160°F, 0.571 at 140°F, 0.429 at 120°F and 0.286 at 100°F.
- Hydronics. 9.6 GPM with a 20°F drop, for a pressure drop of 0.41 ft H2O through the coil.
- Fluid. Hot water or a propylene glycol solution, with correction factors published by Sterling.
- Pressure and temperature. Coil rated up to 150 PSI (1,034 kPa) or 320°F (160°C) on hot water, factory tested at 200 psig (1,379 kPa) under water.
- Electrical. 1/3 HP motor, single speed, 115 V, single phase, 60 Hz. Sterling does not publish a reduced-speed rating for this model.
- Listing. According to Sterling’s manual, ETL certification to CSA C22.2, UL 1995 and UL 60335-2-40.
Three pieces of data are missing from what we verified: weight, dimensions and pipe connection size. We obtain them from the manufacturer before ordering, because they determine the piping and the supports.
Our role, from selection to start-up
In Quebec, a commercial building may be heated by an electric boiler, an air-to-water heat pump, or both. We start from the water temperature actually available, then the heat-loss calculation, to confirm the HSB13211 or propose another size. Our technicians then hang the unit by rods, level, connect it with isolation valves and air purging, wire the 115 V supply and the control, then start it up and measure the flow.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). We serve Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore.

The data that matters for designing the loop
For the contractor, the engineer or the facility manager, the HSB13211 comes down to a few published values: output at 200°F, water flow, pressure drop and correction factors. We design the connection from those figures.
- Neighbourhood logistics centre
- Machine or fabrication shop
- Retailer’s warehouse heated by an electric boiler
- Converting a building to an electric hot-water loop
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- The rating applies to 200°F water. Sterling’s factors apply below that: 0.857 at 180°F, 0.715 at 160°F, 0.571 at 140°F, 0.429 at 120°F, 0.286 at 100°F.
- The circuit must supply 9.6 GPM with a 20°F drop, against a coil pressure drop of 0.41 ft H2O.
- Single-speed 1/3 HP motor, 115 V, single phase, 60 Hz. Sterling does not publish a reduced-speed rating for this model.
- Weight, dimensions and pipe connection size are to be confirmed with the manufacturer: they are not in the verified data.

Frequently asked questions
Can the coil handle the pressure of a commercial loop?
Sterling rates it up to 150 PSI (1,034 kPa) or 320°F (160°C) on hot water, and every coil is factory tested at 200 psig (1,379 kPa) under water.
Which standards does the unit meet?
According to Sterling’s installation manual, the designs are certified by ETL to CSA C22.2, UL 1995 and UL 60335-2-40.
What does it give with an air-to-water heat pump supplying 120°F?
Sterling applies a factor of 0.429 at 120°F to the 95,800 BTU/h rating. We check with you whether the corrected output is enough, or whether a larger size or a second unit is needed.
Should glycol be planned?
Only if part of the loop could freeze. Sterling publishes correction factors for propylene glycol, and we apply them to the output and flow calculation.
