Quick facts
Replace a small electric furnace, with a 2-wire hookup
What the Dettson SUP10-A240D12 is
When a small electric furnace reaches the end of its life, the simplest path is often to replace it with a unit of similar output that connects without redoing the wiring. The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP10-A240D12 is designed with that in mind. It delivers 10 kW at 240 V, or 7.5 kW at 208 V, and connects at 240/208 V with 2 wires, no neutral. If you want to power accessories, Dettson also provides for a possible 3-wire connection.
It suits a basement apartment, a ducted addition, a small home or a building supplied at 208 V, where it keeps a 3.8 kW first stage.
Built to last and to be serviced
The Suprême has a few details that matter when you keep a furnace for a long time. The breakers are mounted at the front, as are the continuous fan switch, the low/high power switch and the heating demand light. The elements are individually replaceable: if one fails after years, you change that part, not the unit. They run in sequence, quietly according to Dettson. The furnace accepts copper or aluminum supply wiring.
How it fits your home
Dettson approves it for zero clearance and for mobile homes. It leaves the factory set for upflow, but also installs downflow with the DFB-SUP base on a combustible floor, horizontal left or right, or suspended. Its direct-drive 1/3 HP PSC motor has three speeds and delivers up to 1,150 CFM at 0.5 in. w.c.
Considering air conditioning? The furnace accepts a coil up to 3 tons, on the supply or the return side. With a heat pump, Dettson requires non-simultaneous operation: the elements and the heat pump must never heat at the same time, which would cause overheating.
