Quick facts
A 27 kW electric furnace with a PSC motor, for a 3-wire supply
Who the SUP27-A120D20 is designed for
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP27-A120D20 is for forced-air homes whose needs justify 27 kW, and whose electrical supply is planned at 120–240/208 V, 3-wire. It is a furnace with elements: return air passes over the electric elements, then the blower sends it through the ductwork. At 240 V it delivers 27 kW; at 208 V it delivers 20.3 kW, or 69,195 BTU/h.
The blower is driven directly by a 1 HP four-speed PSC motor. We choose the speed at installation, based on the home’s ductwork. For anyone who wants an electric furnace without unnecessary features, it is a straightforward option.
What to plan for on the electrical side
At this size, Dettson splits the supply over two terminal blocks, so two breakers: no more than 70 A for block 1 and 90 A for block 2 at 240 V (60 A and 80 A at 208 V). The published total current is 125.1 A at 240 V, and both copper and aluminum wire are approved. In a home in Laval or on the North Shore that is replacing an old furnace, we first check that the electrical service and the panel can take these two circuits.
The breakers are mounted on the front panel, next to a continuous fan switch, a low/high power switch and a heat-demand indicator light. The cabinet is painted steel, and each element can be replaced individually when one of them needs changing.
Air conditioning and heat pump
The SUP27-A120D20 takes an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 5 tons, on the supply or return side. With a heat pump, one rule applies: Dettson prohibits running the elements and the heat pump at the same time, as this would cause overheating. The system must therefore be non-simultaneous, and the manufacturer offers the K03081 interface kit for the heat pump. The elements then act as backup heat.
Installation by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, with RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Everything starts with a free in-home estimate: heating needs, location, existing wiring. Since the furnace is multi-position and approved for zero clearance, we install it in upflow, downflow, horizontal or suspended position, depending on the space available.
We then connect the plenum to the 20 x 20 in supply opening, make the two electrical connections, set the blower speed and check the temperature rise, which Dettson places between 50 and 70 °F at 240 V. Our teams travel to Montreal, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore, and you get a written quote before the work.

A 27 kW electric furnace for a 3-wire supply
The SUP27-A120D20 connects at 120–240/208 V, 3-wire. Its blower is driven directly by a 1 HP four-speed PSC motor, and its elements switch on in sequence to heat the air sent through the ductwork.
- Replacing an electric furnace where the supply is planned as 3-wire
- Homes whose heating-needs assessment confirms a 27 kW size
- Adding a central air conditioner or heat pump, with a coil of up to 5 tons
- Installation in a basement, a mechanical room or suspended
Specifications

What to know before installing
- 120–240/208 V single-phase, 60 Hz, 3-wire power supply.
- Two supply circuits: terminal block 1, breaker of no more than 70 A at 240 V (60 A at 208 V); terminal block 2, breaker of no more than 90 A at 240 V (80 A at 208 V).
- Ampacity calculated per CSA C22.2-236: 60.6 A (block 1) and 90.0 A (block 2) at 240 V; 52.8 A and 78.0 A at 208 V.
- With a heat pump, Dettson prohibits running the elements and the heat pump at the same time, as this would cause overheating: the system must be non-simultaneous. The manufacturer offers the K03081 interface kit.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the furnace sits on the DFB-SUP base.
- The furnace alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Frequently asked questions
Why two breakers?
At 27 kW, Dettson splits the supply over two terminal blocks. Block 1 needs a breaker of no more than 70 A at 240 V and block 2, no more than 90 A at 240 V. We check that your panel can take these two circuits.
What kind of power supply is needed?
The SUP27-A120D20 connects at 120–240/208 V, 3-wire, single-phase, 60 Hz. We confirm the existing wiring during the free in-home estimate, and our team makes the connection.
Can I add a heat pump to it?
Yes, with a coil on the supply or return side, up to 5 tons. The elements and the heat pump must not run at the same time: Dettson requires a non-simultaneous system and offers the K03081 interface kit.
What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?
Dettson covers parts for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use. Labour is not part of the manufacturer’s warranty.
Does this furnace qualify for a grant?
No. A furnace with elements installed on its own does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant: it is not a heat pump.
