Quick facts
18 kW of electric heat, ready for a three-wire supply
What sets the SUP18-A120D12 apart
In Dettson’s Suprême Avantage series, the SUP18-A120D12 is the 18 kW version designed for a 120–240/208 V single-phase three-wire supply. It delivers 18 kW at 240 V and 13.5 kW at 208 V, with a first stage of 9 kW at 240 V. Its 1/3 HP direct-drive PSC motor has 4 speeds; for heating, the speed is factory-set for 775 CFM at 0.5 in w.c.
You feel the result at the registers: Dettson publishes a temperature rise of 60 to 80 °F at 240 V. The elements switch on in sequence, quietly, and each one can be replaced individually.
The homes that need it
An 18 kW furnace makes sense when the heat-loss calculation calls for it: a larger single-family house, a multi-storey cottage or a plex heated by a single duct system. We do that calculation on site, room by room, before recommending this size rather than the 15 or 20 kW model from the same series. We come to you in Laval, Montreal, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.
On the electrical side, Dettson calls for a 100 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V) and lists a 100.0 A ampacity. Your electrical service must be able to take this circuit: it is one of the first things we check.
Air conditioning, heat pump and location
The furnace accepts an air-conditioner or heat-pump coil on the supply or return side, up to 3 tons, with a maximum airflow of 1,150 CFM at 0.5 in w.c. With a heat pump, the elements become the backup heat, without ever running at the same time as the heat pump: Dettson does not allow it, to avoid overheating, and the K03081 interface manages the switchover.
Being multi-position, the Suprême installs upflow, downflow with the DFB-SUP base depending on the floor, horizontal or suspended. It is 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep, and it is approved for zero clearance and for copper or aluminum wiring.

18 kW of electric heat for a duct system
The SUP18-A120D12 heats air with electric elements that switch on in sequence and distributes it with a 4-speed direct-drive PSC motor. It is wired on three wires and accepts an air-conditioning coil of up to 3 tons.
- Ducted houses and plexes that need 18 kW according to the load calculation
- Replacing an old furnace on a three-wire single-phase supply
- Projects that add central air conditioning or a heat pump of up to 3 tons
- Basement, horizontal or suspended installation

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- 120–240/208 V single-phase 3-wire supply: we check that your electrical service matches it.
- Dedicated circuit: 100 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V) and 100.0 A ampacity at 240 V according to Dettson.
- With a heat pump, the elements and the heat pump must never heat at the same time (overheating risk according to Dettson): a thermostat or the K03081 interface must prevent it.
- The air-conditioning or heat-pump coil is not included; it goes on the supply or return side.
- In downflow, the DFB-SUP base may be required depending on the type of floor.

Frequently asked questions
What power supply does this model need?
A 120–240/208 V single-phase 3-wire supply, 60 Hz. The series also offers a 240 V version, the SUP18-A240D12: we tell you which one suits your electrical service.
What breaker is needed?
Dettson specifies a 100 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V) and a 100.0 A ampacity at 240 V. We check your panel’s capacity during the free estimate.
Can I add central air conditioning?
Yes, up to 3 tons, with a coil on the supply or return side. The published maximum airflow is 1,150 CFM at 0.5 in w.c.
Does it work with a heat pump?
Yes, as backup heat, but never at the same time as the heat pump: Dettson does not allow it, to avoid overheating. The thermostat or the K03081 interface manages the switchover.
What is Dettson’s warranty?
Parts for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer warranty.
