For a home that also wants to be cooled
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP23-A120D20 heats with electricity, at 23 kW at 240 V and 17.3 kW at 208 V, but it is mainly designed for homes that also want cool air in summer. Dettson accepts it with an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 5 tons, on the supply or return side. For a large multi-storey house, a two-storey home with a finished basement or a duplex whose ductwork serves every level, it leaves good room for cooling.
A 1 HP motor to push air further
It all comes down to the blower: a 4-speed, 1 HP direct-drive PSC motor with a 12 x 9 wheel. With this motor, Dettson publishes a maximum of 5 tons of cooling for this model. For heating, the published temperature rise ranges from 55 to 75°F at 240 V; we measure it at commissioning to set the right speed.
The rest follows the Avantage recipe: elements that come on in sequence and can be replaced one by one, a painted steel cabinet, front-mounted breakers, a continuous-fan switch, a low/high power switch and a heat-demand light. The furnace installs upflow, downflow or horizontal, and Dettson approves it for zero clearance and mobile homes.
Before ordering: electricity and the heat pump
This model runs on a 3-wire 120–240/208 V supply. Dettson lists a 150 A maximum breaker at 240 V and a total current of 107.9 A: the electrical panel must be able to take it, and we check this before any purchase.
If you pair a heat pump, note that Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to heat at the same time, because this would cause overheating. The thermostat, or a manufacturer accessory, alternates them; the K03081 interface kit is provided for this. The elements then take over during cold snaps.
