Quick facts
An electric furnace that heats in winter and moves cooled air in summer
What the SUP27-A240D20 offers
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP27-A240D20 is an electric furnace with elements rated 27 kW at 240 V, or 20.3 kW at 208 V. It connects at 240/208 V single-phase, 2-wire; a 3-wire connection is also possible for 120–208/240 V with accessories. Its blower is driven directly by a 1 HP four-speed PSC motor.
Dettson publishes two airflow figures for this model, measured at 0.5 in w.c.: 1,275 CFM in heating, at the medium-low speed set at the factory, and 2,030 CFM at maximum. A higher speed is generally used for cooling, and Dettson allows an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 5 tons on this model, on the supply or return side.
Which home it suits
Take a multi-storey house on the South Shore, heated by an old furnace and without central air conditioning. The owners want to replace the furnace now and add an air conditioner later. The SUP27-A240D20 fits that plan: it heats with its elements in winter and, once the coil is installed, distributes cooled air through the same ductwork. The 27 kW size itself is confirmed by assessing the heating needs, not by floor area alone.
In terms of space, it is 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep, weighs 105 lb and is approved for zero clearance. It installs in upflow (factory configuration), downflow, horizontal to the left or right, or suspended. For downflow on a combustible floor, it sits on the DFB-SUP base.
Electrical and heat pump: the manufacturer’s rules
At 27 kW, the supply goes through two terminal blocks: a breaker of no more than 60 A for block 1 and 90 A for block 2 at 240 V (50 A and 80 A at 208 V). The published total current is 119.5 A at 240 V. If a heat pump is added, Dettson prohibits running the elements and the heat pump at the same time, as this would cause overheating: a non-simultaneous system is required, and the manufacturer offers the K03081 interface kit.
What AirGreen does
A family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For the SUP27-A240D20, our work includes:
- the free in-home estimate, including a check of the electrical service and panel for the two circuits;
- setting the furnace in place and connecting the plenum to the 20 x 20 in supply opening;
- the electrical connections, using the breaker sizes Dettson publishes;
- choosing the motor speed and checking the temperature rise, 55 to 75 °F at 240 V according to Dettson;
- if you add air conditioning, installing the coil and setting up non-simultaneous operation.
We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil and throughout the North Shore and the South Shore.

Heating in winter, moving cooled air in summer
The SUP27-A240D20 heats air with 27 kW of electric elements at 240 V. Its 1 HP four-speed PSC motor delivers 1,275 CFM in heating at the factory speed, and Dettson publishes a maximum airflow of 2,030 CFM, both at 0.5 in w.c.
- Homes with ductwork that are adding a central air conditioner or heat pump of up to 5 tons
- Replacing an electric furnace supplied at 240/208 V, 2-wire
- Homes whose heating-needs assessment confirms a 27 kW size
- Tight spaces: zero clearance, upflow, downflow, horizontal or suspended position

What to know before installing
- 240/208 V single-phase, 60 Hz, 2-wire power supply (3-wire connection possible for 120–208/240 V with accessories).
- Two supply circuits: terminal block 1, breaker of no more than 60 A at 240 V (50 A at 208 V); terminal block 2, breaker of no more than 90 A at 240 V (80 A at 208 V).
- Ampacity calculated per CSA C22.2-236: 54.0 A (block 1) and 90.0 A (block 2) at 240 V; 47.0 A and 78.0 A at 208 V.
- With a heat pump, running the elements and the heat pump at the same time is prohibited (overheating, according to Dettson): the system must be non-simultaneous; K03081 interface kit offered by the manufacturer.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the furnace sits on the DFB-SUP base.
- The furnace alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Frequently asked questions
Is the airflow suitable for a central air conditioner?
Dettson allows a coil of up to 5 tons on this model and publishes a maximum airflow of 2,030 CFM at 0.5 in w.c. We choose the motor speed based on the air conditioner and the ductwork.
Which speed is set at the factory?
The medium-low speed, which gives 1,275 CFM in heating at 0.5 in w.c. according to Dettson. The PSC motor has four speeds; we adjust the setting at installation if the ductwork calls for it.
How many electrical circuits are needed?
Two. Block 1 needs a breaker of no more than 60 A at 240 V and block 2, no more than 90 A at 240 V. We check the electrical service and the panel during the free estimate.
What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?
Parts are warranted by Dettson for 5 years in residential use (1 year in commercial use). The manufacturer’s warranty does not cover labour.
Does this furnace qualify for a grant?
No, not on its own. This furnace heats with electric elements, not with a heat pump, so it does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant.
