Quick facts
23 kW of electric heat on a simple 2-wire 240 V circuit
Who it is for
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP23-A240D12 is for owners who are replacing an electric furnace and want to keep things simple. It connects on 2-wire, single-phase 240/208 V, without requiring a 3-wire circuit; a 3-wire connection for 120–208/240 V remains possible with accessories. It delivers 23 kW at 240 V and 17.3 kW at 208 V.
You will find it in a triplex unit with its own ductwork as well as in a single-family house where the heat-loss calculation confirms this size. A 3-speed, 1/3 HP direct-drive PSC motor moves 1,150 CFM at high speed (factory setting) at 0.5 in w.c., according to Dettson.
A position that adapts to the room
The furnace is multi-position: upflow from the factory, downflow on the DFB-SUP base when the floor is combustible, or horizontal to the left or right. Dettson even allows it to be suspended, which can free up basement floor space by hanging it from the ceiling near the main ducts. It is approved for zero clearance, mobile homes and copper or aluminum wire.
If you want air conditioning, a coil of up to 3 tons installs on the supply or return side. With a heat pump, Dettson requires that the elements and the heat pump never heat at the same time, to avoid overheating: the thermostat or an accessory alternates them, and the K03081 interface kit is provided.
Built to last and easy to service
The elements come on in sequence, quietly, and can be replaced individually. The breakers are mounted on the front, next to the continuous-fan switch, the low/high power switch and the heat-demand light. The cabinet is painted steel. Dettson covers parts for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
How we install it
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work, so we handle the electrical connection as well as the installation. In practice:
- we assess the heating need, the ducts and the electrical panel on site, free of charge (total current of 99.1 A at 240 V, 125 A maximum breaker);
- you receive a written quote;
- we install the furnace in the chosen position and connect it to the ducts and the dedicated circuit;
- we commission it, check the temperature rise (60 to 80°F at 240 V according to Dettson) and explain the controls.

An electric furnace that connects on 2-wire 240 V
The SUP23-A240D12 connects on 2-wire 240/208 V, heats air with elements that come on in sequence and pushes it through the ducts with a 1/3 HP PSC motor. A cooling coil of up to 3 tons can be added.
- Replacing an existing electric furnace wired at 240 V
- Plex units or houses with ductwork
- Horizontal installation suspended from a basement ceiling to free up floor space
- Central air conditioning up to 3 tons
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Dedicated circuit: total current of 99.1 A at 240 V (85.9 A at 208 V), ampacity of 119.7 A (104.0 A at 208 V), 125 A maximum breaker.
- Maximum cooling is 3 tons; the coil goes on the supply or return side.
- With a heat pump, Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to heat at the same time (overheating): the thermostat or an accessory must alternate them.
- In a suspended or horizontal position, plan access to the front for the breakers and controls.

Frequently asked questions
How is the SUP23-A240D12 wired?
On 2-wire, single-phase 240/208 V. Dettson also allows a 3-wire connection for 120–208/240 V, with accessories. The maximum breaker is 125 A, at 240 V as at 208 V.
Can it hang from the basement ceiling?
Yes. Dettson allows suspended installation and the horizontal position, left or right, as well as upflow and downflow. We choose the position based on the duct layout and access to the front panel.
What air conditioner can be added?
An air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 3 tons, on the supply or return side, according to Dettson.
Can the elements heat at the same time as the heat pump?
No. Dettson does not allow it for this model, because it would cause overheating. The thermostat or an accessory alternates the two sources, and Dettson provides the K03081 heat pump interface kit.
What does Dettson warrant?
Parts, for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
