What changes with the 1 HP motor

In Dettson’s Suprême Avantage series, the models differ by heating output, but also by blower. The SUP20-A120D20 gets the largest PSC motor in the Avantage range: 1 HP, direct drive and 4 speeds, with a 12 x 9 blower wheel. This lets it accept an air-conditioner or heat-pump coil of up to 5 tons, while the versions with a smaller motor accept less cooling.

For heating, it delivers 20 kW at 240 V and 15 kW at 208 V, or 51,256 BTU/h. The elements switch on in sequence, with a 10 kW first stage at 240 V, and Dettson publishes a temperature rise of 45 to 65 °F at 240 V.

The projects that benefit

This model is aimed at large ducted homes in Laval, on the South Shore or on the North Shore that want high-capacity central air conditioning, or a large central heat pump with the elements as backup. With a heat pump, Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to run at the same time; the K03081 interface makes it possible to follow that rule.

A point of transparency: for this 1 HP motor on a three-wire supply, Dettson’s sheet and manual do not publish the same airflows. Rather than quoting an uncertain figure, we choose the speed on site based on the coil and your ducts, and we check the result at commissioning.

Electrical work, planned from the start

The furnace is supplied at 120–240/208 V single-phase on three wires. Dettson calls for a 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V (100 A at 208 V) and publishes a 114.0 A ampacity at 240 V. We assess your electrical service during the estimate and state in the quote whether it can take this circuit.
