Two airflows, two seasons
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP23-A240D20 is a 23 kW electric furnace at 240 V (17.3 kW at 208 V) fitted with a 4-speed, 1 HP direct-drive PSC motor. For heating, Dettson factory-sets low speed: 970 CFM at 0.5 in w.c., with a published temperature rise of 50 to 70°F at 240 V. When summer comes, the higher speeds reach 2,030 CFM, and Dettson accepts a cooling coil of up to 5 tons.
This model therefore suits a large home, for example a two-storey house with a finished basement, that wants both electric heat and a good-sized central air conditioner, or a central heat pump. The exact air conditioner size comes from the calculation, not from the maximum allowed.
Heat pump: one rule to follow
The furnace accepts an air conditioner or heat pump coil on the supply or return side. With a heat pump, Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to heat at the same time, because this would cause overheating. The thermostat, or a manufacturer accessory, alternates the two sources; Dettson also provides a K03081 heat pump interface kit. In this setup, the heat pump heats as long as it is enough and the elements take over in deep cold.
A simple electrical connection
It connects on 2-wire, single-phase 240/208 V, and a 3-wire connection for 120–208/240 V is possible with accessories. Dettson lists a total current of 102.4 A at 240 V and a 125 A maximum breaker, at 240 V as at 208 V. The breakers are mounted on the front, with the continuous-fan switch, the low/high power switch and the heat-demand light. The elements come on in sequence and can be replaced one by one.
As for placement, it is multi-position (upflow, downflow on a DFB-SUP base when the floor is combustible, horizontal left or right), can be suspended and is approved for zero clearance.

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, the furnace does not qualify for the LogisVert grant: it is not a heat pump.
- Total current of 102.4 A at 240 V (88.7 A at 208 V) and ampacity of 123.5 A (107.3 A at 208 V): a dedicated circuit is required, 125 A maximum breaker.
- With a heat pump, the elements and the heat pump must not heat at the same time (Dettson cites a risk of overheating); interface kit K03081.
- The cooling coil goes on the supply or return side, up to 5 tons.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the DFB-SUP base is used.

Why two different airflows?
Dettson factory-sets low speed for heating, which is 970 CFM at 0.5 in w.c. The 4-speed, 1 HP motor can reach 2,030 CFM, an airflow that is useful for cooling. We adjust the speed at commissioning.
What size of air conditioner can be connected?
Up to 5 tons, according to Dettson, with the coil on the supply or return side. The right capacity depends on the home’s calculation; we determine it during the estimate.
Is a 3-wire circuit needed?
No. The furnace connects on 2-wire 240/208 V. A 3-wire connection for 120–208/240 V is possible with accessories. The maximum breaker is 125 A.
Can the heat pump and the elements run together?
No. Dettson does not allow simultaneous operation for this model, because it would cause overheating. The thermostat or an accessory alternates the two sources.
