Quick facts
A 23 kW electric furnace that is easy to live with, controls up front
What the SUP23-A120D12 is
The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP23-A120D12 is an electric furnace with elements that delivers 23 kW at 240 V, or 17.3 kW at 208 V. Its elements come on one after the other, in sequence and quietly, and a 4-speed, 1/3 HP direct-drive PSC motor sends the warm air through the ducts. At high speed, the factory setting, Dettson publishes an airflow of 1,150 CFM at 0.5 in w.c.
It is a straightforward choice to replace an old furnace in a home that already has ductwork, when the heat-loss calculation confirms a need of this size and the planned air conditioning stays modest. It also suits mobile homes, an installation Dettson approves.
Controls you can see and use
The Avantage series puts a continuous-fan switch, a low/high power switch and a heat-demand light on the front panel. The breakers are also mounted at the front of a painted steel cabinet. Day to day, you can tell at a glance whether the furnace is receiving a call for heat, and you can leave the fan running continuously to circulate the air in the house. The elements can be replaced one by one, which makes service easier years down the road.
Air conditioning and heat pumps: the manufacturer’s rules
The furnace can take an air conditioner or heat pump coil, on the supply or return side, up to 3 tons of cooling. With a heat pump, Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to run at the same time, because this would cause overheating. The thermostat, or a manufacturer accessory, must therefore alternate them, and Dettson provides a K03081 heat pump interface kit. The elements then act as backup heat when the heat pump is no longer enough.
Installation by AirGreen
This version runs on a 3-wire 120–240/208 V supply. With a total current of 103.3 A at 240 V and a 125 A maximum breaker, it needs a dedicated circuit and an electrical panel that can take it. That is the first thing we check during the free on-site estimate.
AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Our technicians take care of:
- checking the heating need and the electrical service;
- placing the furnace upflow, downflow or horizontal, depending on the room;
- the electrical connection and the connection to the ducts;
- setting the blower and checking the temperature rise, which Dettson puts between 60 and 80°F at 240 V;
- commissioning and explaining the front-panel controls.
On warranty, Dettson covers parts for 5 years in residential use (1 year in commercial use); labour is not covered by the manufacturer.

A straight replacement for an electric furnace
The SUP23-A120D12 heats air with elements that come on in sequence and pushes it through the ducts with a 1/3 HP PSC motor. It can take a cooling coil of up to 3 tons.
- Replacing an old furnace in a home with ductwork
- 3-wire electrical services (120–240/208 V)
- Adding central air conditioning of up to 3 tons
- Basement, mechanical closet or ceiling (horizontal, suspended)
- Mobile homes, an installation Dettson approves
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- 3-wire 120–240/208 V supply: total current of 103.3 A at 240 V (89.5 A at 208 V), ampacity of 124.7 A (108.3 A at 208 V), 125 A maximum breaker.
- Maximum cooling of 3 tons; the coil installs on the supply or return side.
- With a heat pump, the elements and the heat pump must not heat at the same time (overheating, according to Dettson): a thermostat or accessory that alternates them is mandatory.
- For downflow on a combustible floor, the furnace sits on the DFB-SUP base.

Frequently asked questions
Why two outputs, 23 kW and 17.3 kW?
Dettson lists 23 kW when the furnace is supplied at 240 V and 17.3 kW (58,944 BTU/h) at 208 V. Your building’s voltage therefore sets the real output; we check it during the estimate.
Can I add central air conditioning?
Yes. The coil installs on the supply or return side of the furnace, up to 3 tons of cooling according to Dettson. For a larger air conditioner, we will suggest another version from the series.
Can it work with a heat pump?
Yes, in alternation. Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to run at the same time, which would cause overheating. The thermostat must alternate the two sources, and Dettson provides a K03081 heat pump interface kit.
What warranty does Dettson offer?
Dettson covers parts for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
No. An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump and does not qualify.
