Heating plus large air conditioning

The Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP20-A240D20 is aimed at homes where cooling matters as much as heating. On the heating side, it delivers 20 kW at 240 V and 15 kW at 208 V, or 51,256 BTU/h, with elements that switch on in sequence and a 10 kW first stage. On the air side, its 1 HP direct-drive PSC motor, with 4 speeds and a 12 x 9 blower wheel, moves up to 2,030 CFM at 0.5 in w.c.

For heating, Dettson factory-sets the motor to its low speed: 970 CFM at 0.5 in w.c., for a published temperature rise of 55 to 75 °F at 240 V. The higher speeds remain available for cooling, up to a 5-ton coil. On the front panel, the continuous-fan switch, the low/high power switch, the heat-demand indicator light and the breakers stay within reach.

The homes that benefit

Think of large ducted homes in Laval, on the North Shore or on the South Shore that want high-capacity central air conditioning, or a central heat pump with the furnace elements as backup. In that case, Dettson does not allow the elements and the heat pump to heat at the same time; the K03081 interface makes it possible to follow that rule.

High airflow only makes sense if the ducts can carry it. Before pairing a large coil, we inspect your system and tell you frankly whether it needs changes.

Connection and location

The furnace is wired at 240/208 V on two wires, or on three wires with accessories. Dettson calls for a 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V (100 A at 208 V) and publishes a 107.4 A ampacity. It is multi-position: upflow, downflow with the DFB-SUP base depending on the floor, horizontal or suspended, at 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep. It is approved for zero clearance and for copper or aluminum wiring.
