GREE Rooftop R32 · packaged · Updated Oct. 27, 2026

GREE packaged heat pumps. One cabinet on the roof, connected to your ducts. How much heat at −30 °C? The certified records answer, size by size. LogisVert? The list carries all four sizes; the guide names only split and mini-split systems.

4 GREE Rooftop R32 packaged heat pumps, from 24,000 to 60,000 BTU/h. For a flat-roof plex, shop or house that already has ductwork. Compressor, coils and fan sit in one cabinet on the roof: no indoor unit, no refrigerant line set inside the building. What is left is picking the size, and checking what the roof and the electrical panel will take.

−30 °CBottom of the heating range GREE publishes for all four sizes. At that temperature, NEEP still lists a maximum of 13,200 to 28,500 BTU/h, from the 2-ton to the 5-ton.
0 mOf refrigerant line set to run inside the building. ENERGY STAR files all four sizes as “Single Package”: every major assembly in one cabinet.
285.0 kgNet weight of the 4- and 5-ton per GREE Canada, 237.0 kg for the 2- and 3-ton: the load the roof has to carry. The LogisVert amounts listed for these AHRI numbers are in the LogisVert section, to be confirmed for a packaged unit.

The winter ladder

Four sizes, four temperatures. See what each one delivers.

Tonnage says little about winter. The NEEP and ENERGY STAR records of each AHRI number say a lot: from 8.3 °C down to −30 °C, with the rated value wherever one exists.

Winter, size by size

All four AHRI numbers have a NEEP record and an ENERGY STAR cold-climate record. Pick a size: the answer shows the maximum heat published at four temperatures, then the LogisVert arithmetic.

At −15 °C, the 3-ton matches the 2-ton

ENERGY STAR rates the 2-ton and the 3-ton at 29,000 BTU/h at −15 °C, and the 4-ton and the 5-ton at 51,000. The gap between neighbouring sizes comes back at −8.3 °C and −30 °C. For all four sizes, NEEP and ENERGY STAR publish more heat at −15 °C than at −8.3 °C: we show their values as published.

In the cabinet, and around it

What GREE ships, and what gets prepared on site.

A packaged unit moves the work to the roof. GREE ships the complete cabinet; four things remain to plan on site.

Shipped by GREE

  • One cabinetCompressor, coils and fan in a cabinet 1,250 mm tall. The supply and return ducts connect straight to it.
  • The R32, factory-charged4.25 kg in the 2- and 3-ton, 5.8 kg in the 4- and 5-ton. That charge also sets a minimum room area: see the technician’s corner.
  • The GREE wired controllerIncluded, on two non-polarized wires, up to 98.5 ft (30 m) from the unit. A 24 V thermostat can take its place: the “Thermostat” tool below explains the setting.
  • A 160 W base pan heaterPer NEEP, it turns on below 33.8 °F (1 °C) outdoors or during defrost.

To plan on site

  • The roof curbGREE does not supply it. The manual gives its reference dimensions; the supply and return ducts are built on site, inside the curb.
  • Which way the ducts goDown through the base pan, or out the side of the cabinet: the covers come off the opening you choose.
  • Backup heatNone from the factory. GREE allows only its LYQ-08 kits of 6, 9 or 12 kW, listed for all four sizes.
  • The load on the roof237.0 kg net for the 2- and 3-ton, 285.0 kg for the 4- and 5-ton, on a footprint of 1,120 × 900 mm or 1,120 × 1,120 mm.

One cabinet on the roof, a local team to connect it.

GREE designs the Rooftop R32 and its heater kits. AirGreen picks the size from the certified figures and installs the unit; the roof curb and the roof waterproofing are coordinated in the quote with a roofer holding the licence that applies.

Before you count on it

LogisVert guide v1.10 defines the eligible system as an air-to-air split (central) or mini-split (wall-mounted) heat pump, always with an outdoor unit and at least one indoor unit; the word for a packaged unit (monobloc) does not appear in it. It also excludes an air distribution network placed outside the insulation envelope, for example in the attic. So whether a packaged unit qualifies has to be confirmed in writing with Hydro-Québec before it goes into your budget.

All four amounts come from Hydro-Québec’s list dated Oct. 27, 2026 and stay indicative until Hydro-Québec confirms them on your application. Guide formula: $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at −8 °C, ENERGY STAR value, for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate heat pump.

Questions

Roof, cold, LogisVert: your questions on GREE packaged units.

Does LogisVert pay for a packaged rooftop heat pump on a house?
Hydro-Québec’s list of Oct. 27, 2026 carries all four AHRI numbers, with indicative amounts from $1,860 (2 tons) to $4,080 (5 tons). But the program guide describes the eligible system as a split or mini-split, and never names a packaged unit. Until Hydro-Québec confirms it in writing, that amount is a possibility, not a given.
How much heat does it give at −30 °C?
NEEP lists a maximum of 13,200, 17,000, 23,500 and 28,500 BTU/h at −30 °C for the 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-ton. It is also the bottom of GREE’s heating range: colder than that, no figure is published. For comparison, Montréal’s January design temperature is −23 °C under the National Building Code.
Will the Rooftop R32 work with my 24 V thermostat?
Yes. The unit takes a standard 24 V thermostat or the included GREE wired controller, but only one of them, set by switch SA1. With the thermostat, the manual rules out a centralized controller.
Is there electric backup heat?
Not from the factory. GREE allows only its LYQ-08-F (6 kW), LYQ-08-G (9 kW) and LYQ-08-H (12 kW) kits, listed for all four sizes; the manual forbids any other heater. The kit is chosen with the heat-loss calculation.
What has to be ready on the roof?
A roof curb, which GREE does not supply, with the ducts built inside it. The roof has to carry 237.0 kg (2 and 3 tons) or 285.0 kg (4 and 5 tons), on a footprint 1,120 mm wide and 900 or 1,120 mm deep. If the ducts cannot go down through the curb, the cabinet also connects from the side.
Which size do I need?
It follows from the building’s heat-loss calculation. To compare, look at certified values rather than tons: at −8.3 °C, the temperature LogisVert uses, the four sizes are rated 15,500, 21,800, 28,200 and 34,000 BTU/h. The ladder at the top of the page shows the other three temperatures.
