GREE add-on central heat pumps for your furnace. You keep your furnace. A GREE heat pump joins it through a cased coil, and each one heats in turn.

Who heats, and at what price? Pick your system and your threshold.

On Rate DT, the heat pump heats above the threshold and the furnace below it. The tool sets Hydro-Québec’s kWh price against the heat NEEP certifies for each coil system on this page.

Your system, your threshold

Pick the coil family, the tonnage and your climate zone’s threshold. The answer shows who heats on each side of the threshold, what a kWh costs, and the heat NEEP certifies for the heat pump at the point published at the threshold, or just above it. Your zone, −12 or −15 °C, is confirmed with Hydro-Québec: the pages we read do not give it for Montréal or Montérégie. For the R-32 systems, NEEP publishes a lower maximum at −8.3 °C than at −15 °C: we show it as published. NEEP read Oct. 26, 2026, maximum values as published; Rate DT in force April 1, 2026; LogisVert list of Oct. 27, 2026, indicative amounts.

Hydro-Québec first asks you to have a heating contractor check that the dual-energy installation meets the requirements. Homes on natural gas: the Chauffez vert dual-energy stream, on Québec.ca, requires the home to be heated with natural gas before work starts, and gas takes over in cold weather, at −12 °C and below (page updated March 30, 2026).

Who does what

Your furnace stays. Its gas or oil side goes to a licensed partner.

An add-on touches two trades: refrigeration and fuel. Québec’s building authority, the RBQ, keeps them apart, and so do we.

What AirGreen does not do

We do not touch your furnace’s burner, gas valve or oil. Natural-gas burner systems (15.2) and oil burner systems (15.3) are reserved subclasses: a licensed partner does that work.

Three coil families

FXA, GCAC or GCAT: the coil decides the documents, and the figures.

All three families sit on a furnace’s air outlet, in a cabinet 445 mm (17-1/2 in) wide for 2 and 3 tons, or 622 mm (24-1/2 in) for 4 and 5 tons. What changes: the refrigerant, the distributor, and what is certified.

The threshold, in NEEP points

NEEP publishes heat at 8.3, −8.3, −15 and −30 °C, nothing in between. In a −12 °C zone, the last certified point before the switch is −8.3 °C; in a −15 °C zone, it is the threshold itself.

What is an add-on heat pump?
A GREE outdoor unit and a cased coil set on your forced-air furnace. The heat pump heats and cools; the furnace stays as backup. Hydro-Québec cites this setup, a fuel-fired furnace paired with a central heat pump, as a typical dual-energy installation.
When does my furnace take over on Rate DT?
Below −12 °C or −15 °C depending on your climate zone: a probe supplied and installed by Hydro-Québec reads the temperature, and a switching device makes the change automatically. At or above the threshold, a kWh costs 5.131 ¢; below it, 30.001 ¢. Your address’s zone is checked with Hydro-Québec.
Does LogisVert pay for an add-on on my furnace?
Guide v1.10 pays for a complete new ENERGY STAR system and excludes replacing a single coil. The coil systems on this page are on the list from $1,800 to $4,920, but the guide does not say whether an add-on that keeps the furnace is a complete system: we have Hydro-Québec confirm it before promising an amount.
Who does the gas or oil part?
A licensed partner. Natural-gas burner systems (15.2) and oil burner systems (15.3) are RBQ subclasses reserved for master pipe-mechanics. Our licence covers ventilation (15.8), refrigeration (15.10) and electricity (16).
R-32 or R-410A on my furnace?
Both are on this page: FXA and GCAC on R-32, with a global warming potential of 675 per ENERGY STAR, and GCAT on R-410A, at 2,088. At 2 tons, NEEP gives at most 24,000 BTU/h at −15 °C for the GCAC and 21,600 for the GCAT.
My house is on natural gas: which program applies?
The Chauffez vert dual-energy stream, from the Québec government, is for homes heated with natural gas before work starts; gas takes over in cold weather, at −12 °C and below. The amounts and other conditions are on Québec.ca.
