Multi-zone heads

Fourteen listings with no outdoor unit: where they plug in.

The Free Match R-410A ducted units and the DUCT..BD are sold here without an outdoor unit. The Free Match heads only serve one room of a multi-zone system; so does the DUCT..BD, except with the single-zone Vireo GEN3 outdoor unit. The complete system carries the AHRI number, the certified heat and the LogisVert amount; the selector shows this as “depends on the multi-zone system”.

Listed as a “High static concealed slim duct” for the MULTI GEN2 (MULTI18 to 42HP230V1EO) and MULTI+ ULTRA (MULTIU18/24/36/42HP230V1DO, no longer on NEEP on Oct. 26, 2026). GREE Comfort also marks it compatible with the single-zone Vireo GEN3 outdoor unit: NEEP certifies the 18,000 with the 3VIR18HP230V1BO (AHRI 211726655), 13,300 BTU/h at −15 °C, no ENERGY STAR.

At 24,000 BTU/h the gap is small: 21,000 BTU/h at −15 °C on NEEP for the Extreme and Airy, 19,600 for the Crossover and Slim Duct R32. The multi-zone heads close the list.

The heat comes from NEEP records for the complete system; the airflow, from GREE Canada’s brochure. Airflow tells you how much air your grilles will get at each speed.

Return air

From the bottom or the rear, your choice. GREE asks for a filter at the return opening and suggests keeping the edge of the return duct more than 150 mm (5‑7/8 in) from the wall.

Setting the pressure

From the wired controller or GREE’s commissioning software. The manual gives steps from 0 to 150 Pa on the 9,000 and 12,000, from 0 to 200 Pa on the 18,000 to 24,000, and a working range of 0 to 275 Pa.

Fresh air

GREE Canada provides a fresh-air connection: the knock-out baffle is cut, and fresh air must pass through the filter. For the Slim Duct R32, GREE Comfort’s submittals say “Ventilation (Outdoor Air) No”. It is not an air exchanger.

Weight and water

32.0 kg at 9,000 and 12,000, 42.0 kg at 18,000 and 24,000, 30.0 and 43.0 kg for the 30,000 and 36,000 X-Match. Built-in condensate pump; the manual does not clearly assign its lift, so we check it on site. The DUCT..BD has a 1 1/8 in drain.

In the attic, no LogisVert

The participation guide (v1.10, appendix I) lists as ineligible work “installing indoor units, including the air distribution network, outside the insulation envelope, that is, outside the living spaces (e.g. in the attic or roof space)” (our translation). A ducted unit in a bulkhead, a closet or a suspended ceiling inside the insulation is not caught by that exclusion; the amount then depends on the AHRI number.

How much ductwork can a GREE ducted unit handle?
GREE publishes no maximum length, but a static pressure: up to 0.6 in. w.c. (149.3 Pa) for GREE Canada’s R32 ducted unit at 9,000 and 12,000, 0.8 in. (199.1 Pa) from 18,000 to 36,000; 60 to 90 Pa rated for the Free Match R-410A high-static head, 10 to 15 Pa for the low-static one. We calculate your system’s pressure before choosing.
How much room does it need in the ceiling or bulkhead?
The unit’s thickness, plus the ducts and the return air: 300 mm for GREE Canada’s R32 ducted unit up to 24,000, 260 mm for the 30,000 and 36,000 X-Match, 11‑13/16 in for GREE Comfort’s Slim Duct R32 and 200 mm for the R-410A low-static head.
Can the ducted unit go in the attic?
If you want LogisVert, no: Hydro-Québec excludes the indoor unit and its ducts when installed outside the insulation envelope, that is, outside the living space, such as in the attic or roof space. Inside the insulation, in a bulkhead or a closet, that exclusion does not apply.
Can the ducted unit bring in fresh air?
GREE Canada’s R32 ducted unit accepts a fresh-air connection, which must pass through the filter; GREE Comfort’s Slim Duct R32 submittals say the opposite for their model. Either way, it does not replace your ventilation.
Which ducted units qualify for LogisVert?
Those whose AHRI number is on the list of Oct. 27, 2026: from $1,170 (36,000 X-Match) to $3,264 (36,000 Slim Duct R32), with $2,400 for the 24,000 Extreme or Airy. No amount for the 9,000 ducted units or the Slim Duct R32 from 18,000 to 30,000. Indicative amounts.
Which ducted unit heats best at −30 °C?
Per NEEP, the 24,000 on the Extreme, also sold as Airy: 19,100 BTU/h at −30 °C, with a COP of 1.81. The 24,000 Crossover and Slim Duct R32 follow at 18,200. At 30,000 and 36,000, X-Match or Slim Duct R32, NEEP stops at −25 °C: 16,900 and 19,800 BTU/h.
