GREE FLEXX ULTRA R32 electric furnace. The FXU air handler takes up to seven heat kits. Which one fits yours, and what breaker goes behind it?

4 FLEXX ULTRA R32 systems, 2 to 5 tons, each with its FXU air handler. GREE Comfort publishes, for this air handler, the list of kits allowed by tonnage and, for each one, the actual power at 208 and 230 V, the minimum circuit and the maximum breaker. The tool below puts them side by side.

4.6 kWWhat the “5 kW” kit delivers on 230 V, per GREE Comfort; 3.74 kW on 208 V. The name is the power at 240 V.

3 of 7Kits the 2-ton air handler, the FXU24, accepts on GREE Comfort’s chart: 5, 6 and 10 kW, none of the others.

Choosing the heat kit

Your air handler, your kit, your circuit.

Pick the air handler, then the kit. If GREE Comfort allows it, you see its actual power at 208 and 230 V, the heat it adds, the minimum circuit and the maximum breaker. If not, the tool says which ones are allowed.

FXU air handler and heat kit

GREE Comfort’s compatibility chart (May 28, 2026) says what is allowed; each air handler’s submittal (Jan. 27, 2026) gives the electrical values, at 208 and 230 V.

Electrical values: each air handler’s own submittal, GREE_FXU24_230V_R32_SUB_01272026 and following. Heat added: actual power × 3,413 BTU/h per kW (NRCan), rounded to the nearest hundred. The 9 and 12 kW kits connect to two supplies; their FXU60 values differ from the FXU36 and FXU48 ones.

Three gaps: 6, 9 and 12 kW
6 kW: 4.5 and 5.5 kW, 32 and 34.5 A on the 24 MBH submittal; 3.74 and 4.6 kW, 31 and 33 A on the 36, 48 and 60 MBH ones, like the 5 kW. 9 kW: 6.03 and 7.36 kW, less than the 240 V rule gives. 12 kW: the same 7.49 and 9.2 kW as the 10 kW.

Our rule

We order the kit from GREE Comfort’s chart list, for the air handler installed, and confirm with the distributor before installing. For the 6, 9 and 12 kW kits, the nameplate of the kit delivered settles it.

AirGreen × GREE

The right kit in the right FXU.

GREE builds the FXU air handler and its kits. AirGreen picks the kit, runs the circuit and installs it all, under its licences 15.8, 15.10 and 16.

Did you know?

What the FXU hides behind its panel.

LogisVert · Hydro-Québec

LogisVert: the FXU pair counts, the kit does not.

Each GREE Comfort submittal prints the pair’s AHRI certificate, from 215213329 (2 tons) to 215213332 (5 tons), and all four numbers are on Hydro-Québec’s list of Oct. 27, 2026. The amount is calculated on the pair’s ENERGY STAR capacity at −8 °C; the heat kit changes nothing. The amounts by tonnage are on the FLEXX ULTRA R32 central heat pump page; they are indicative, and Hydro-Québec confirms them once you apply.

Questions

FXU air handler: the six questions we hear most.

Does the FXU come with electric heat?
No. GREE Comfort’s submittals list the auxiliary heater as “optional”; it is ordered separately, by tonnage. The A2L leak sensor, on the other hand, is factory installed.
Which kit goes in my air handler?
Per GREE Comfort’s chart of May 28, 2026: 5, 6 or 10 kW for the FXU24; 5, 6, 9, 10, 12 or 15 kW for the FXU36; any of the seven, 5 to 20 kW, for the FXU48 and FXU60. The size comes from the heat-loss calculation.
Why does my “10 kW” kit give 9.2 kW?
Because the name comes from the power at 240 V: the GREE installation manual names its kits that way (“240 V / 6 KW”). At 230 V, GREE Comfort publishes 9.2 kW for the 10 kW kit; at 208 V, 7.49 kW, about 31,400 and 25,600 BTU/h.
What breaker for a 15 kW kit?
On the FXU36, FXU48 and FXU60, GREE Comfort prints at 230 V a minimum circuit of 82 A and a fuse or breaker of 90 A at most; at 208 V, 74 A and 80 A. The final rating is set from the nameplate, by a contractor holding subcategory 16, as AirGreen does.
Can I keep my smart thermostat?
Per a GREE Comfort tech tip, the FLEXX R32 works with any standard 24-volt heat pump thermostat; the WK010 controller is only for RS485 communication. The air-handler manual still names the WK-010WC1 as the required thermostat: we check your model at the visit. The GREE thermostats page compares the control options.
What about the 8 kW kit in TTI’s brochure?
TTI Climatisation’s French brochure (BRO0125) prints one, but GREE Comfort’s chart of May 28, 2026 has no 8 kW kit. We order from GREE Comfort’s list and confirm with the distributor.
