Quick facts
18 kW in four elements: a Hiboy for homes that need more heat
What it is, and for which homes
The Conforto KHE-02-G018-03 is a 2nd-generation electric element furnace in the multiposition Hiboy format. With 18 kW, or 61,460 BTU/h at 240 V, it targets two-storey houses, cottages and older homes whose heating calculation exceeds what a 15 kW model covers. A 1/3 HP three-speed PSC motor distributes the warm air through the ductwork.
Despite its output, it keeps the same 20 x 21 in cabinet as the smaller sizes in the series, which makes replacing an old furnace in an existing mechanical space easier.
Four elements, two stages: 9 kW, then 18 kW
Its 5, 4, 5 and 4 kW elements are split into two stages. The first brings in 9 kW; the second adds the other two elements to reach 18 kW. The thermostat can be two-stage, in which case it controls each group of elements directly, or single-stage: then ComfortMax judges, cycle after cycle, whether to call on the full 18 kW, while avoiding short cycles. The temperature rise published by Conforto runs from 55 to 75 °F.
A 100 A circuit: the question to settle first
At this output, electricity comes before everything else. Conforto calls for a 100 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire. In a home on the North Shore or in Longueuil that already has an electric range, dryer and water heater, we work out the load before recommending this model. If the electrical service needs to be increased, the written quote says so clearly, with no surprises during the job.
For summer, the furnace accepts an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 3 tons. If the house needs more cooling, we will tell you and propose another approach. Reminder: sold alone, the furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

An 18 kW Hiboy for larger houses
The KHE-02-G018-03 heats air with four elements split into two stages, 9 kW then 18 kW, and distributes it through the ductwork with a 3-speed PSC motor.
- Two-storey houses and cottages with ductwork
- Replacing an old central furnace in a house with high heating needs
- Upright, downflow or horizontal right-side installations
- Projects with central air conditioning or a heat pump of up to 3 tons
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Dedicated 240 V, 60 Hz, single-phase circuit: 100 A minimum ampacity, breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire, per the manual. The capacity of the electrical service must be checked.
- Maximum cooling of 3 tons: a larger coil is not provided for with this furnace.
- Horizontally, right side only; in downflow on a combustible floor, a non-combustible base is required.
- Sold alone, the furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- 1 disposable 20 x 20 x 1 in filter

Frequently asked questions
Why a 9 kW first stage?
The furnace has four elements of 5, 4, 5 and 4 kW. The first stage brings in two of them, for 9 kW; the second adds the other two to reach 18 kW. A 2-stage thermostat controls them through W1 and W2, and ComfortMax handles it with a single-stage thermostat.
Is my electrical service large enough?
Conforto calls for a 100 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire at 240 V. We assess the total load of the house during the free estimate; if an upgrade is needed, it appears in the written quote.
What cooling can be added?
An air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 3 tons, on the supply plenum or the return (DIP switch 3). If the house needs more, another solution is required, which we present during the estimate.
What temperature rise does it give?
Conforto publishes a rise of 55 to 75 °F for this model. We check it at commissioning and adjust the motor speed if needed.
Can it be installed horizontally?
Yes, on the right side only. The manual prohibits the left side and installation on the front or back.
