Quick facts
20 kW, an ECM motor and a well-protected electrical section: a Hiboy made in Canada
What it is, and who it suits
The Conforto KHE-02-G020-H3 is a 2nd-generation electric element furnace in the multiposition Hiboy format. It produces 20 kW, or 68,288 BTU/h at 240 V, with four 5 kW elements split into two stages: 10 kW on the first, 20 kW on the second. It is aimed at large houses and older homes with high heating needs, once that need is confirmed by an on-site calculation.
It differs from the PSC version by its 1/2 HP Ecotech ECM motor with five speeds. Conforto sets it at the factory to HIGH speed for heating; at 0.5 in of water column, the manufacturer’s table then gives 1,200 CFM, and up to 1,275 CFM at 0.2 in.
A well-protected electrical section
A furnace of this output draws a lot of current, and Conforto’s controls combine several safeguards: staged elements and heavy-duty relays, redundant high limits, surge and brownout protection, and a control board with a replaceable fuse. If something goes wrong, LED diagnostics guide the technician, and the programmable DIP switches adapt the operation to the installation. The cabinet is fully insulated, and Conforto states that its furnaces are made in Canada.
For everyday comfort, ComfortMax analyzes each cycle and modulates the elements to limit short cycles, while QuietComfort preheats recirculated air at low energy. A 24 VAC output accepts accessories such as a central humidifier, welcome during the dry winter months.
Before installation
Conforto calls for a 240 V single-phase circuit with a 110 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 125 A and 3 AWG wire. In a home in Longueuil or on the North Shore, we assess the electrical service before any recommendation. The 20 x 21 in cabinet installs upright, in downflow or horizontally on the right side, and accepts an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 3 tons. Sold alone, the furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
Installation by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We handle the free estimate, the written quote, the installation, the 240 V circuit, the thermostat hookup and, where applicable, the humidifier, then the commissioning, in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore.
For a high-output electric furnace installed by the book, ask for your free estimate. AirGreen’s financing then lets you spread the payments.
A 20 kW ECM Hiboy for very demanding homes
