Quick facts
27 kW of electric backup for a large central heat pump
Who the Conforto KLE-02-G027-H5 is for
More and more owners of large homes want to switch to a central heat pump without giving up reliable backup heat for the coldest nights. That is exactly the role of the KLE-02-G027-H5. This 27 kW Lowboy electric furnace, 34 1/2 in high, heats the whole house on its own if needed, and accepts a heat pump or air conditioner coil up to 5.0 tons.
It also suits projects spread over time: the furnace goes in now, in the basement, and the coil and outdoor unit follow when the budget allows.
Designed to work as a team with a heat pump
A high-capacity heat pump needs a steady, well-set airflow. The 12 x 10 in blower of this furnace is driven by a five-speed 3/4 HP ECM (Ecotech) motor. On HIGH, Conforto publishes 1,575 CFM at 0.2 in. w.c. and 1,475 CFM at 0.5 in. w.c.; the lower speeds are used to adjust the airflow to the coil and the operating mode.
When the heat pump is heating, the six elements move into the backup role. During defrost cycles, the control turns one or more of them on, depending on the DIP switch 3 setting. The coil can go on the supply or the return side. And when the furnace heats on its own, it starts with a 15 kW first stage before reaching the full 27 kW.
What to plan
A 27 kW furnace needs a solid electrical service. Conforto lists a 114 A total current, a breaker of no more than 150 A and 1 AWG wire. You also need a basement that allows an upflow installation, the only position allowed for the Lowboy. The furnace accepts a 1 or 2 stage 24 VAC thermostat, smart or not, and a 24 VAC terminal can power a central humidifier.
What AirGreen does for you
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work: the furnace, the coil, the outdoor unit and the electrical hookup are handled by the same team. The estimate is free and done on site; we check the panel, the space and the ducts. You then receive a written quote that clearly separates the furnace and, where applicable, the heat pump. After installation, we set the ECM speed and commission the system.
Let’s start with a visit
We install in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore. Whether your project happens in one step or two, we plan it with you.

Electric backup for a large central heat pump
The KLE-02-G027-H5 combines 27 kW of elements with a 12 x 10 in ECM blower. It can heat a large home on its own, or become the backup for a central heat pump up to 5.0 tons.
- Large homes switching to a central heat pump while keeping electric backup
- Replacing a low-profile basement furnace, with high-capacity central cooling
- Duct systems that need airflow adjusted to the season
- Two-step projects: furnace now, coil and outdoor unit later
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone: not eligible for the LogisVert grant. The furnace is not a heat pump.
- 240 V single-phase power supply: Conforto lists a 150 A minimum circuit ampacity, a 150 A maximum breaker and 1 AWG wire. The electrical service must be checked.
- Lowboy format: upflow only.
- Coil, outdoor unit and thermostat not included.
- Plan for 21 1/2 in wide, 44 in deep and 34 1/2 in high.
- 1 disposable 20 x 20 x 1 in filter

Frequently asked questions
What size heat pump can be paired with it?
Conforto allows an air conditioner or heat pump coil up to 5.0 tons, on the supply or the return side. The exact choice depends on the home’s needs: we confirm it during the estimate.
How do the elements work with the heat pump?
They become the backup heat. During heat pump defrost, the control turns on one or more elements, depending on the DIP switch 3 setting.
Why an ECM motor on a furnace this size?
Because the airflow has to suit both heating and the coil. The 3/4 HP ECM motor has five speeds, from 1,575 CFM on HIGH to 725 CFM on MED-LOW depending on pressure.
What electrical hookup is needed?
A 240 V single-phase circuit, with a 114 A total current, a 150 A minimum circuit ampacity, a 150 A maximum breaker and 1 AWG wire, according to Conforto.
Does the furnace qualify for a grant?
No. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. For a project with a heat pump, ask us for a complete quote.
