Quick facts
An 18 kW electric Lowboy for larger homes built around this format
Why a Lowboy, and why 18 kW
In a large bungalow or cottage built with a Lowboy furnace in the basement, the supply and return ducts were designed for that format. When it is time to replace it, keeping the same format limits changes to the ductwork. The Conforto KLE-02-G018-03 is the 18 kW version of this upflow Lowboy: 61,460 BTU/h at 240 V, for a house that needs more heat than a 15 kW Lowboy can supply.
A 1/3 HP three-speed PSC motor pushes air through the ducts, with a published airflow of 1,100 CFM at HIGH speed, at 0.2 in of water column.
Steadier heat
Its four elements of 5, 4, 5 and 4 kW work in two stages. The first brings in 9 kW; the second raises output to 18 kW. The staged elements are controlled by heavy-duty relays, and the control board offers LED diagnostics. With a single-stage thermostat, the ComfortMax function analyzes each cycle and modulates the elements to avoid short cycles. The QuietComfort function preheats recirculated air at low energy to even out the step from one stage to the next. Conforto publishes a temperature rise of 55 to 75 °F, which we check at commissioning.
Before installation: panel, floor and ducts
Three checks come before any order. First the panel: Conforto calls for a 100 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire, at 240 V single phase. Then the floor: the cabinet takes 21 1/2 x 44 in for 34 1/2 in of height and installs in upflow only. Finally the ducts: the warm air plenum is 20 x 20 in and the return 18 1/2 x 18 1/2 in, and we plan the transitions needed.
The furnace also accepts an air conditioner or heat pump coil of up to 3 tons. Sold alone, it is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Frequently asked questions
Will the new furnace fit my current ducts?
The cabinet measures 21 1/2 x 44 x 34 1/2 in, with a 20 x 20 in warm air plenum and an 18 1/2 x 18 1/2 in return. We compare these dimensions with your current installation during the estimate and plan the transitions needed.
How are the 18 kW split?
In two stages: the first brings in 9 kW, the second brings the furnace to 18 kW. The elements are 5, 4, 5 and 4 kW.
What electrical circuit does it need?
A 240 V single-phase circuit with a 100 A minimum circuit ampacity, a breaker of no more than 100 A and 3 AWG wire, according to Conforto.
Does it heat during heat pump defrost?
Yes. If a heat pump is paired with the furnace, the control turns on one or more elements during defrost, according to the DIP switch 3 setting.
What is in the box?
