What it is, and who it is for
The Conforto KHE-02-G023-H3 is a 23 kW Hiboy electric furnace, or 78,530 BTU/h according to the manufacturer, equipped with a five-speed 1/2 HP ECM (Ecotech) motor. It heats a home with solid heating needs on its own, and it becomes the indoor unit of a complete central system as soon as a heat pump or air conditioner coil is added, up to 3.0 tons.
It is aimed at homeowners converting their central heating to a heat pump, or getting ready to, whose mechanical space calls for a particular position: utility closet, narrow mechanical room, ducts under the floor.
Why the ECM motor matters with a heat pump
A coil works well when the airflow through it is right. This furnace’s ECM motor has five speeds, and Conforto publishes the airflow of four of them: from 1,275 CFM on HIGH to 600 CFM on MED-LOW, depending on duct pressure. Our technicians can therefore set one speed for heating and another for cooling, instead of a compromise.
When the heat pump is heating, the five elements switch to backup. During defrost, the control turns on one or more elements depending on the DIP switch 3 setting. The coil can go on the supply or the return side.
Installed in the position that fits
The cabinet is 20 in wide by 21 in deep. Conforto allows three positions: upflow, downflow, with a non-combustible base mandatory on a combustible floor, or horizontal on the right side. Horizontal on the left side is not allowed, nor is placement on the front or back. On the electrical side, a 240 V single-phase circuit is needed with a 125 A minimum ampacity, a breaker of no more than 125 A and 2 AWG wire.

What does the five-speed ECM motor allow?
Choosing an airflow suited to heating, then to the heat pump or air conditioner coil. Conforto publishes airflows from 1,275 CFM on HIGH to 600 CFM on MED-LOW, at 0.2 and 0.5 in. w.c.
Can it be installed horizontally?
Yes, on the right side only. It also installs upflow or downflow; horizontal on the left side and placement on the front or back are not allowed.
